Advice on industrial/retro look
Comments (12)Hi Layla! You've got a very interesting project! It sounds like you have a right idea what to do. To be honest, this style industrial and especially in mix with retro can be hard to recreate not being professional. But the best advice I can give you - try to keep it simple, don't try to mix too many shades and colour tones. Add more textures and details in accessories! Than more colours you have to mix than harder it will be to balance all together. Blue is gorgeous but still too many colours around - cream, grey, white, brown wood, blue, copper...surely i missed something! If you like to highlight your breakfast bar by making it blue, may be at least to use similar worktop as in the kitchen? What finishing do you plan to use for walls? Industrial loves brick, concrete, bare pipes, wires. Retro - clutter free space, funky colours, old look furniture and appliances. How much if each style would you like to bring in? which style is dominant?...See MoreWhat do you want to read about on Houzz this year?
Comments (53)I can't help but speculate that perhaps the reason so many houses featured are London based or more high-end properties is because most of the case studies are uploaded by architecture or design professionals who employ professional photographers to show off the finished results. These services aren't cheap and I don't imagine these companies get too many requests from owners of smaller 30's - 70's era homes, especially from outside the capital, because the homeowners won't see a return on the investment. I would have thought requesting design-savvy home owners load more of their own photo's would help bridge the gap. Perhaps on the next newsletter you can ask homeowners to consider contributing any photos of spaces they are particularly proud of?...See MoreMassive renovation project - floor plan dilemma 1 flat vs 2
Comments (71)Hi Everyone, I hope you are doing well wherever you are but I bet everyone's busy at this time of the year. I have been a busy bee myself and learned how to use Homestyler but I must say it's a painful and slow process. I have been obsessed with the floor plan of the small flat for the past week as the time has come to finalize it with the new team. We'll be around 2 months behind the plan which is fine. So I made the decision to not have a loft in the small flat because the floorplan I chose seems to work well with loads of storage. Please excuse some of the furniture such as the kitchen and the colour of the large cabinet, they will be white but Homestyler is quite limited so I had to chose from whatever they had in store. Let me know what you think of the floor plan please. I'm happy with it so far. I'll send you links to short panoramic videos Honestlyler created which was a godsend as that'd exactly what I wanted to see, at least approximately how my flat would look like. I really wanted visualise what to expect. The videos are pretty much the same but starting from different angles of the 30sqm flat. Comments (10)Thanks everyone for your input and advice, it really has been much appreciated. As some have suggested, I think our next steps are to collate a "vision board" (if you like) of what we'd like to get the ball rolling. We've not had much luck with finding inspiration here, as most gardens, even with a compact filter seem to be significantly larger than our space or heavily floral focused, which don't get me wrong can look beautiful but is not quite what we're looking for. Pinterest (see, board) and Instagram seem to have a varied selection of both features and completed gardens (although most are much larger spaces). Once we have an idea of what we think we might like, we'll then reach out to some of the garden designer professionals (thanks to those who shared their details) to help reaffirm our plans. We're more than happy to roll up our sleeves and get with the graft and heavy lifting that might be involved, even if to cut down on cost, but we would be more than likely to get professionals in to ensure a quality execution/finish. We'll have have shop around a view various portfolios to gauge what sort of prices we should be expecting to pay for the various services (e.g. Design, Landscaping etc...) but we're in a much better place to start. Finger crossed, we'll be able to update you all with progress soon....See MoreConscious Forms
