Ideas for a small bathroom

Hi,

I am looking to renovate/redevelop my bathroom and was hoping for some inspiration.

Please find attached the existing layout with bathroom (1.4m x 1.7m) and WC separated by a simple partition wall (combined size of 1.4m x 2.5m). I'm open to seeing suggestions for 1) the current (separated) layout as well as 2) combined (i.e. removing the partition wall).

In the first instance I thought about replacing the integrated bathtub with a wet room and in the second i wondered whether a separate bathtub and shower unit could be incorporated.

Hi Jonathan,

We think you should explore the option of removing the existing partition wall, giving you extra room to play with.

In terms of sanitaryware, if the only bath in the property is the one indicated above, then we suggest you consider keeping a bath with a shower screen - our reason being that if you come to sell the property in the future, you may secure more highly regarded viewings in comparison to a property that only has a shower.

I agree with an entirely tiled room. You might take a pic facing the sink and toilet side (I think the one shot makes the size deceptive) The decor of the rest of the house, or the planned decor, will help you decide on the tile or tile family (you can use different sizes or run patterns to add interest) Off white can be striking, and likely work with anything But you can also go with very light cement colored greys or other neutrals on very light tones... I do recommend coming up with a design plan for the entire home first (even if it is not all renovated at once). Many people go room by room and later on the home itself can feel disjointed. Try to look to the style of the house as well. Do you have other pics of the house? You'll want it to relate well to the rest of the house. :)

From what your describing we had the same thing going on,I didn't like the ensuite( too small) and the bathroom needed to be bigger,so we got rid of the ensuite and put a door between our bedroom and bathroom like a jack and Jill.After a while I felt it just didn't work so we closed up the wall and we now have one big bathroom.im glad we did it now. I too wondered if it would devalue the house and I'm sure if a larger family moved in it could be a bit of a problem,maybe someone from the real estate world will pop in and give you some advice. I don’t want to pour cold water on your plans but the soil pipe position dictates the location of your wc. You can get a macerator to allow a different wc location (I have had them with no problems) but they are quite unpopular on this site. I also feel that you are getting rid of the small wc only to make the shower room feel cramped. You should also check with an estate agent that the local market doesn’t demand a bath because you don’t want to cause problems on resale. As far as the open plan thing goes your open to the hallway plan won’t be allowed in anything other than a ground floor flat because of fire regs as you need a safe escape from bedrooms. I have an alternative suggestion which is to make the kitchen a shade smaller, make the WC bigger and add a laundry cupboard next to the wc. Of course any changes require budget. Do you have one in mind?

Hi Jonathan,

If it's possible, we would suggest removing the partition wall to create a larger space, as this will give you more options when considering the layout.

A wet room would help to open the room up and create a feeling of more space. If you do need the bath however, we would suggest keeping the combined bath/shower, rather than trying to fit a separate shower unit in.
