Position of hob in new kitchen
Comments (10)I MUCH prefer MATH's plan, or even switching the hob on the back wall of your plan. I am not a fan of hobs on islands :( . Personally I wouldn't subject my friends to a film of grease and cooking smells wafting directly onto them as they are enjoying a drink the other side of the bar, even with a pop up hood things won't be much improved because of the noise level they bring, even the quieter ones are still noisy and annoying in such close proximity. Plus there's always a host of kitchen paraphernalia needed to have on hand as you cook, room needed to remove a pan, dish out etc., with a sink at least you can add a wooden board over the top to hide the mess in the sink and provide some extra surface. And let's be honest in reality the need for you to have your back to your guests for long as you cook something on the hob at the back should not be for long, most of us cook things in advance with only minimal cooking left to do once guests arrive....See MoreKitchen layout and hob position
Comments (22)As the sink and the hob is not directly behind each other it shouldn't be a problem, however you need to imagine yourself cooking/ preparing dinner. Everytime you wash something for cooking you will have to turn around to take it to the hob, potentially you could be dripping some water across the area ( not great if you are planning to have wood floors ). What is the reason why you want the hob on the island, is it so you can talk to guests whilst cooking? Where is the seating area for the guests, will it be opposite the hob or down one end of the island?...See MoreKitchen Design Dilemma - Sink Position?
Comments (24)Using a large chopping block that slides over the sink will bring back your joined prep area. In most homes the worktop above the DW is constantly stacked with plates ready to go in ( by family members too lazy to put it in the DW) so it’s better to have this in option C too. Ultimately it’s your choice though, I’m just pointing out the safety issue out of concern only. I’d hate for you to tip while trying to drain a large pan of pasta....See MoreLantern position in new kitchen extension dilemma
Comments (0)Our architecture has drawn up plans for our approved kitchen extension but I want to ask ideas for having a sky lantern.Should we have it to similar to our plans (nearer to the original building or more over to the proposed bifold doors? Also, what maximum size lantern would be recommended?Extension is width 5900 X 5900mm.Our architecture has said we will need the middle rsj but can move it up and down to accommodate the lantern and the lantern can be placed either side of the middle rsj.We would like a largest lantern as a statement piece but it won't sit over the dining table or island completely. Any suggestions??? IF I KNEW HOW TO UPLOAD DRAWINGS I WOULD!!...See MoreMaria B
