What colour should I paint bedroom fireplace and wardrobes?
Comments (16)Hello Nicola E, How you treat the paint work entirely depends on what you want to stand out.. The fireplace or the wardrobes.. This too depends on what else is happening in the room... If just a bed then it's entirely possible to create a feature of said wardrobes by painting them a bolder colour or the chimney breast a darker colour.. Look at the room and consider what you'd like to have as a focal point and how big the room is.. Shades of cream and off whites are far nicer than white.. So if you decide to include a white scheme, definitely look at shades of off white and creams.. Little Greene has a lovely range of chalky colours.. such as Whitening, White Lead, Stock etc.. These can be chosen for wood and walls.... They give a warm, chalky and sophisticated look which can blend beautifully with colours such as Celestial blue or James just to talk of blue and these are warm not cold blues .. I also like Juniper Ash which is a slightly mauve colour but look for warm versions of a colour you like.. So if the fireplace is to stand out and the wardrobes are a pale creamy colour the accent and focus is the fireplace which will benefit if the room is smaller than you'd like.. If you have a large bed then this might be the best way to consider it. If the room is large and you want something to create a statement then consider the fireplace and wardrobes.. A shade or two darker for wardrobes than chimney breast will create a frame surrounding both the fireplace and for the bed if this is facing on the opposite wall.. Blend the bedding and cushions, should you choose them into the scheme to create a cohesive and stylish finish. Lastly if you want a pale room with painted wardrobes these will form a statement and frame if you have less in the room... : )) Blended.... Contrast... This one isn't a bedroom but you get the idea.....See MoreWhat satin/eggshell to paint wardrobes white that won't go yelllow?1
Comments (5)Hi Nell51. I have done lots of painting recently and have used both oil based and water based paints. We live in a house with lots of conker coloured varnish and I too prepped it with Zinsser Bin. I then used Rustins water based undercoat to further obliterate the dark wood. The oil based paint I would highly recommend is Little Green. I have never used such good quality paint before and there is a great choice of colours (we opted for Portland Stone pale eggshell). I have also used Farrow and Ball eggshell (Shadow White) which is water based and therefore shouldn't yellow. However I discovered a whole new vocabulary of expletives whilst doing this as it was like painting with PVA glue. Even though I used the right brush and have a lot of experience of painting I found it awful to use. I then discovered a product called Owatrol which is a waterborne paint conditioner. You add it to the F&B paint and it increases flow and becomes more like an oil based paint. It is the best product I have ever discovered and worth every penny. My language has improved too. Hope this helps....See MoreDark paint inspiration
Comments (43)Here are some images of Vardo next to a window with a mini garden. The property is very different from yours so might not do the job in terms of convincing him... but it is a good example of combining light and rich colours to keep it from being overwhelming. The key here is that if you combine a bolder colour with a neutral, make sure the neutral has a compatible undertone to it - i.e. a light grey with a hint of pink will usually sit uncomfortably next to a teal wall. Shown here is Strong White as a neutral. Also - on the 'colour makes a room smaller' issue - we've written briefly about why that isn't always true in this post on decorating with white (see the white lies paragraph); https://absoluteprojectmanagement.com/50-shades-of-white/...See MoreShould I paint this wardrobe?
Comments (7)It’s lovely but the colour is a bit dated I feel. You could paint it any colour you like to fit the decor of the room - off white, taupe, grey. I painted a couple of big bookcases in Little Green Slaked Lime. I gave them a light sand, then painted 2 coats of primer followed by 2 coats of eggshell. Make sure you let each layer dry thoroughly. I used water based paint as I cannot tolerate the strong smell of oil based paint. Oil based does tend to be more hardwearing....See MoreResh
