The chair and footstool are both from IKEA and we had them reupholstered

I agree - i think your chair would work in a room that lets it be the focal point, so having neutrals around it are key. I think pairing this green with white, perhaps a dark wood table and ceramics scattered around in varying sizes would really give it the modern earthy look you're hoping to emulate. Dotting the room with one or two plants (and that could even be wood/twigs etc) would go a long way in maintaining the look too. I've attached a photo below - I'm not crazy about the room, but it might help you visualise what you're after!

I would be tempted to paint the chimney breast and two walls at the side of it. The other alternative is that you introduce a grey for the chimney and then framed by the two walls in Olive. Great idea for a room btw.

You could no doubt pay a carpenter to make this for you for a couple of hundred pound plus materials. Oil it yourself to save more cost, plus it's easy to do.

Depending on the style your trying to accomplish you have a few options. If your style is very modern I'd go with grey walls white furniture and pull some green into your accessories and curtains. If your wanting a more traditional look I'd try oak furniture white walls and accessorise as you like but pull the green that way. You always have the option of a 70s style (I know it's not a 70s sofa) but you could play on the colour by adding a vintage sideboard and big rug maybe adding some mustard yellow and light blue.
