Can anyone help with some lighting tips please

Hi , can I please get some advice on pendants for our kitchen dining living room. I have purchased pendant as shown below that I would love to use , not sure how to light living without being in front of the tv which I'll be placed above fire . Dining table will run parallel to the kitchen island . Bench tops will be white . A library bookshelf will be built in on the rhs wall in the "living room" space ( closest to the windows and fireplace ) thanks in advance

This looks to be a lovely warm house which will be complemented by your stunning pendant. I will leave overhead lighting to others. For ambient soft lighting you can't beat lamps. Well placed lamps will not interfere with your TV either. Another possibility is to use wall lights together with some task lighting.

HI -- I like the red wall but I think the whole room in that would be too much. So right now you need to cut down the contrast of the red wall . Paint a light cream tan on the other walls and also on the ceiling but leave the crown the same color. This will tone down the red and accent the crown molding. You could also use a blueish grey in the same way. Or you could also use a grey with a hint of lavender . Get some color sample cards or pots (benjamin moore paints). Get an idea of the color before you paint the whole area.

Hi Emmeline, when we started Ensoul, we looked at the key challenges a home owner faces when looking to renovate their property which were primarily Space Planning, Interior Design, Architectural Design and Project Management/Procurement. We then built a company with a set of people with the relevant and deep skills to address these challenges. There is then the question you raised about "if you were starting out, how would you get these skills" and i think there are two points of view on this. Firstly, if you look at a parallel with the catering world, some of the world's best chefs are self taught, some have been trained by the best Chefs to learn their craft and some have combined both approaches with academic qualifications as well. So, there is no right answer, everyone's learning pathway will be different. However, there is one clear theme that i do see with every successful person i have had the pleasure to meet during my 30 years in business, and that is this, those people with a deep passion and an innate talent for something always rise to the top. Hi Claire, Do the doors actually open inwards into the room? How about considering place the bed in the center of the room facing the doors? You would disguise the back of the bed with a thin console table which have some dressing style storage (jewelry etc) and can hold some tall flowers and candles to set the mood on entering. There's lots of ways you can add the luxury feel you are looking but this would create real impact and make the bed the real feature of the space. If budget allows I would hang lights from the ceiling ad beside lights and layer up on dressing for an even more luxurious feel. I have attached one of my clients bedroom design (single room re-design package) to show you the hanging lighting idea - if this isn't possible then a well placed small chandelier style light would have a great effect on the space. I literally just took a screen shot on my iPhone and edited it, whilst having my brunch. Others do great mock-ups but I’m no except just use Houzz as a great source of ideas. If you search “apps” on the discussion search bar you should find some recommendations. We did a loft conversion about 3yrs back in or small cottage so we had to make use of every spare space possible. Good luck with your project. It looks v exciting. Hopefully you will get some great ideas that you can work incorporate in your design.

Hi Kristy as your dining table is going to be not only in close proximity to the kitchen but running parallel to the island I would decide whether you want pendant lights over the island or a pendant(s) over the dining table. One area or the other needs to be the feature in terms of your lighting. If you have both then each loses its impact.

Downlights with surrounds that are as close in colour to the ceiling colour as possible so they 'disappear' are ideal for general lighting. Put them on dimmer switches.

LED strip lighting along the kickboard of the bookcase or the kitchen island could be gorgeous and create ambience.

Wall lights that simply wash the wall with light or throw patterns on the wall are lovely and as already mentioned, table and floor lamps can be a major decorative feature in any space.
