POLL: Toy storage - open or closed containers?

When it comes to tidying away toys - do you prefer them to be completely hidden in a closed box, or more on display in a lidless container?

A closed box could neaten the overall aesthetic of a space, but open bins could make the toys are more accessible.

So - where do you stand?

Open containers are much better simply because it is easier for kids to just throw their toys back in and there is no risk of having fingers smashed by falling cover!

I agree, plus it's a kid's room, there's no harm in toys being visible, I think it's quite endearing actually (as long it's not complete chaos :))

An ensuite to the master bedroom is a great asset in a family home, reducing the morning stampede to the family bathroom. It also helps create that sense of luxury, adult space. A sanctuary away from the rest of the family.

I'm building a new house and I've specified some Smart Home technologies - mostly for the lighting and blinds, which together can help give that lived-in look when nobody is home. I chose industry-standard technologies (DALI and KNX) so that nothing is tied to one manufacturer (who could go out of business or decide to stop making / supporting something) and there's no single central 'brain' which would cause chaos if it fails. I agree completely on the 'open technology' point - it's nice to have an app on your phone but it's not nice to have 10 separate apps because you bought things from 10 different companies, so you want everything controllable from one place and you want the labour-saving automation of one system talking directly to another (e.g. "I've just set the intruder alarm, so nobody's home, so turn down the ventilation system"). I'd also say it's worth making a judgment on where technology is changing most and not to invest a lot in something that's likely to become out of date quickly. For example, you can pay a lot of money for fancy KNX light switches but a cheap tablet will be more flexible, and voice control with Siri and Alexa is close to being mainstream.

Oh, those water stains. I so agree - aa interior design. I moved less than a mile but the water marks in my new home were astonishingly bad compared with before. By chance, Thames Water rang the bell one day to run a water test which showed that water here is the hardest it is possible to be. He explained that, despite moving such a short distance, my water comes from a different reservoir. I couldn't stand it and decided I had to get a water softener. It cost a lot but I can't tell you how liberating it is not to have to spend so much time cleaning, cleaning, cleaning or wiping, wiping, wiping just to manage or get rid of scale and scum. I really recommend it. It's also great knowing that my washing machine, dishwasher, radiators and pipes won't get bunged up and ought to function well for a long time. It took a while to get used to the feel of soft water but I now love it and can't imagine I'd ever not want a water softener again, if I were to move. Freedom!

Home by Christina it is! Adds a certain charm to kids room when you can actually see the toys.

I think that there is a hidden benefit that they can just throw them easily into the box - they learn to clean from an early age and that it's not a hard thing to do!

Bit of both really. I couldn't stand open containers in a communal living area but in their bedrooms, not so bad.
