Please critique my first drawing room design
Comments (29)I think curtains similar to the previous owner would work if you keep the colour or background colour close to the wall colour. It's hard to find pictures of a bay with a lowered ceiling without shutters etc but you could also have a pelmet and curtains on the main wall outside the bay or have curtains on the main wall maybe with romans on the window. If you take the curtains higher than the bay ceiling it will make the windows appear visually taller. There are lots of rooms with the coffee table much further away however as you actually want to use the tables for tea etc you may want to keep the 45cm gap but have wider coffee tables. My table is 44cm away (to be precise!) and I couldn't reach much past that comfortably TBH. I would try it! I've just attached 2 pics showing the sofas overlapping the chimney breast and not to see what you think. The chairs in the bay will be fine if the main seating area is zoned with a rug. I've seen your other posts re David Linley, his silhouette chair is rather lovely!...See MorePlease critique my kitchen design
Comments (21)Hmmm, pesky walls! Bearing all that in mind you're probably quite close to what would work best for you. I would suggest though that the tall units stay on the left - if they're on the right you're cutting out a lot of light from your primary natural light source. Also, try not to have your dishwasher tucked right into a corner as that just makes it difficult to work around - sometimes you can crash into handles when opening and closing.. I've tweaked your plan a little which I hope gets you a bit closer to your final solution: good luck!...See MoreCritique my living room!
Comments (48)I would move the bookshelf out altogether or paint it white /cream (same as the walls) and put it where the TV is now. I would put in a big rug reaching under the sofas and a glass coffee table so that it does not look cramped. In the first photo, the room looked long and narrow and my first thought was to put the sofas at right angles to each other to make the room look wider or even to get less bulky sofas (although they look deliciously comfy). Also I couldn't see how the people on the left hand sofa watch the TV which is almost behind them. In the second photo the room looks wider, so hard to tell. I would get rid of the wastepaper basket to the right of the fireplace and instead of having many small things on the walls, have one big thing over the fireplace. Whilst I really don't like TVs on show, maybe you could get one like a Samsung frame your TV over the fireplace which is a TV and a digital piece of art or photo when it is off. That would clear the corner for a side table. Hope that helps. Post photos of the final thing....See Morecritique my kitchen plan
Comments (10)Starting with the shallow depth larders, I would remove these, the 900 corner larder would be really difficult to access into the corner especially at the top shelves. Then on the fridge freezer wall i'd make use of the extra space by having 2x 800 larders either side of the fr/frz, for the fr/frz you need to check the spec as i think the gap you have is to small for most american fr/frz so you might need a larger top box. The base corner unit, i'd lose the sink or if you do need a sink near the range i'd move it round the corner. On the range wall, i'd change the 1200 drawer line (have to be carfeull with drawers and corners) and possibly change to a 300 or 400 hi line (small sink in this instead?) and have either a 900 or 800 pan drawers to balance the drawers on the other side. For the wall units I'd consider getting rid of the corner L and have a blind corner instead (blind corner you can make your own corner post and gives you more flexibility) and i wouldn't have the wall units so close to the extractor so its easier to clean and decorate around the extractor (and if its an induction top the extractor is advised to be larger than the hob top). For the other side of the range the drawers are fine and if you like corner L units thats fine (I prefer blind corner units and make my own corner posts) wall units may need changing to match any changes on the other side. On the sink wall i'd lose the 150 pull out beside the belfast sink and i'd have an integrated washing machine, I would also consider having a dishwasher though. For the island i'd lose the fridge (or integrate it) as this is causing gaps on the back of the island due to the extra decor panel, I'd have a pull out bin instead....See MoreJanet Burlin
