During a heatwave what are you most likely to do?

While most us love the summer, not all of us love days when the temperature reaches 28 degrees or more. If you're in the city, it could be particularly unpleasant, with many people struggling to get a decent night's sleep.

What are your tricks to keeping your home cool? Any secret tips, share them below!

I def complain. Can't stand being hot! I'm Canadian but live in Britain and it's usually much hotter where I'm from but with AC life can go on. Here in the UK life pretty much stops for me when we go over 23 degrees and I'm usually in a foul mood. I set a countdown app today for October when I can feel safe that the stinking heat is behind me for another summer.

In the UK, air conditioning is rare.

It needs to be in law that there should be a maximum temperature in office buildings, as believe it or not, there is a legal minimum temperature but it's ok to cook employees in the oven wrapped in the clothing you dictate lol

I'd sunbathe :) Unfortunately this lovely heatwave is missing us on the west coast of Scotland, as usual!!!

I think that they should go with the style of the building! I hate to see mock Georgian white paneled doors in modern housing - although builders in the UK tend to use them a lot. Like all things they tend to go in fashions though, once it was solid pine, then flat wood effect etc, etc. As a designer and householder though, I tend to prefer something in keeping with the building, and hoping decor that's in tune with the exterior, so the doors would fit in with it all anyway!

When I was air crew Machu Pichu, Petra and the Virgin Islands were an enormous 'perk'. I would love to return to Lundy Island which is magical or visit Guernsey. I'd love to go back on the Solent Forts, but just me and a few friends taking over, no one else!!! Never did the Orient Express, though been to Paris and Venice many times, so would like that experience. Scottish Isles would be great too. Been on Islay and fell in love with it.

In the world of art always make sure you like what you buy. If you think of art as an investment, it could be a sour experience. Love the artwork you acquire. There will be no regrets later. The following works went at different price levels, prices in random order. One was around £5k, another on the £10k and a third one for just under £20k. Have fun guessing. All of them good South American artists.

I'm pretty sure its been shown that keeping curtains and windows shut during the day and only opened in the evening when its cooled down is the best method. For sleeping I switch to just using an empty but high thread count duvet cover (due to the added weight this gives which I like). Add in a fan and a damp flannel for when you want to cool down fast and even in London its not unbearable at least!

For heatwaves A/C is the way forward! Can't stand stuffy office and hot bedroom, makes me not productive and can't sleep either.

I strongly recommend buying even the portable A/C unit. They are very affordable and work a treat!

Soak a scarf or tea towel in icy cold water, wring it out so its not soaking then tie around your neck/shoulders. Cools the blood really quickly and is very easy to do.

It's one of the times I really appreciate going into work because we have air conditioning. I hate excessive heat and feel really sorry for people who work in shops n offices without it.
Night times it's a case of windows open, big fan on and just laying on the bed to watch TV. Less Movement = Less Hotness.
Sleeping's been OK because I never wear nightclothes and just drape a sheet over myself.

I am not a fan of intense heat so I tend to stay inside. My basement flat has lovely thick stone walls so remains cool. If still hot I strip to undies and lean on the wall. Ice cold in a couple of mins, lovely x

I lived in Greece for over 20 years and keep ALL windows and inside doors open day and night with curtains/blinds drawn and get a cross breeze all through the bungalow.

I don't like being hot and busy, but if I'm not doing anything, lazing around in the sun is my thing. Winter is too long.

Rose, when I worked in an extremely hot and overcrowded office, we asked the law lecturer a couple offices down if there was a legal maximum. He dug around for a bit for some precedents and came to the conclusion that offices werecovered by the Factories Act, which *does* set a legal maximum...of 46C!!!

Our manager bought us a fan :-(

I live in the UK but temporarily lived in CA and the advice given to us was to open windows on a night then by mid morning close them and the blinds to keep the room cool instead of letting warm air in, and to block out the sun (which worked well for me as I was south facing). Then try to not use lots of electrical devices as they generate heat.
