maintaining white oiled wooden floor

I love the scandi look. I really want to install engineered white oiled wooden flooring, but, what's it like to maintain and keep clean ? full disclosure, I am in a wheelchair , but my tyres are non-marking. also I have no pets but maybe one day I will get a dog, but that's unlikely!

If you go for a non brushed plank you will find it easier to keep clean as there is less relief to the surface for dirt to accumulate. Any natural timber will scratch, dint and become worn over time. However an oiled finish rather than a uv varnish will be easier to freshen up or perform specific area refurbishment on. Hardwax oil dries and hardens to a strong serviceable finish, repels liquid and protects the timber well. You should be fine. Dog will need to get used to the surface though!

Hi, I agree with Judith, but the only issue with white oiled surfaces is that if they do scratch, then it darkens when it gets dirty or wet. Another option is Bona varnishes. I have used this in my lounge on bare oak. First a primer to keep wood light then two coats of a two part lacquer (Bona Traffic). This is used in airports so is pretty tough. You can phone the technical dept. to get advice.

Hi there, We have a couple of darker option, I believe when going for a dark flooring it tends to create a more warm and cosy feel. We have a couple of option in stock that may be something of interest, these options are engineered boards. Hello webuser_348360, Reeve.. because they are one of my trade companies... Their wood is really lovely.. I have all their samples displayed in my bedroom which is a feature on the design page on my website! I thought that you might like to look at a variety of lovely colours and textures that might be of interest, as there's so much more than just a natural coloured floor..... With the chalky whites... Acre, Shirting and White Lead are all lovely creamy warm whites.. Also Slaked Lime, but it's less creamy and can appear cool... LG is low VOC and water based.. so nice for the environment and easy on the brushes! : ))

Try to remove shoes before you walk across your wooden floors and especially high heeled shoes which can leave marks and indentations in the floor. If you have small children playing in the room with your new floor, a rug or a playmat might be good idea to protect your floor, and their knees. Heavy furniture should have felt pads attached to the feet so that you don’t accidentally scrape or scratch the floor when moving the furniture or cleaning. These are really cheap to pick up and take seconds to apply. Different floor types have different maintenance and care practices to keep them in great condition, so make sure you’re following the right advice for your floor type.
