Exterior wood cladding

We are renovating an old stone house in France and are planning to clad part of the house in wood. We want the colour of the wood to blend well with the stone which has a kind of yellow hint to it. Any advice to which kind of wood we should use?

Good afternoon Lucy

are you looking at the 2nd storey clad in the picture you have posted. as this looks similar to a cedar clad detail. see link to one of our builds attached although its more of a brown/orange tint rather than yellow.

failing that you could use a timber product like
Accoya

and stain it which ever colour you like

Exploring plans to have a first floor extension built on top of existing 10 yr old brick built kitchen with flat roof. House is 1950's hand-made brick and I'd like to have something other than bricks on the first floor. Love the New England style of cladding but don't want wood. We have just started cladding our double height extension with a product called millboard. It comes in all different colours and best of all it's made from cement fibre board although it looks just like wood. We explored so many 'fake' wood cladding and this was by far the best. Originally we wanted blackened timber but we were concerned about on going maintenance so we were really chuffed to find Millboard. It is essentially a deck board but I spoke to Millboard and they said they knew a lot of people were starting to use it as cladding. We are using the fascia trim boards as vertical cladding which is much thinner than the decking boards. They are 16mm deep and 127 wide. Hope that helps!

Thank you so much everyone! It has been so helpful I feel a lot less daunted by the horrible porch and that we can actually do something about it. I think we will get plants to hide the front a bit but thank you Celerygirl, seeing that colour makes me tempted to paint it too. I didn’t realise how much of a difference it would actually make :O and yes, the inside looks exactly like the plastic bathroom stuff because they have it upstairs too and it’s just as awful. Some strange decisions were made in this house, like an weird angled door that has a gap between the fake wall and ceiling... Everyone else in the street with doesn’t have the front porch or has a nice like half brick one with a pitched roof. They all look a lot better I must say!

What type and treatment for exterior timber cladding

I have a real dilemma choosing cladding for my extension. I only intend to clad a small area to break up the off-white render. I don't want orange coloured wood. I want to keep it as natural as possible but I'm not sure the fade to grey would suit the North facing aspect. Sustainability is important - not keen on too many chemicals - any ideas would be very welcome. Thank you
