Comments (65)Depending on how far you budget goes, I would look at adding traditional cornice and pelmet and replacing the plinth with a similar oyster colour. End panels for wall units could also be replaced / added. Some chessboard style tilling in 3 colours would also bring out the walls. It's hard to tell but is the oak surround also on the wall units? Comments (12)If you're committed to changing the staircase, I would definitely recommend putting in some decent practical storage. We have a fairly narrow hall and the old cupboard under the stairs was a nightmarish mess of shoes bags and other junk. As part of our house remodel / extension we had a loft conversion and therefore decided to change the whole staircase. There is a small cupboard on the left for shopping bags etc. But what has revolutionised the hall is the pull-out cupboards, one for shoes and one for coats. The bottom of the coat cupboard also has a well for hats and gloves etc. My boys just automatically put their shoes away now and I don't have coats hanging on the banister. The few long coats we have hang neatly on the coat hooks behind the front door, with room for guest coats. If you haven't committed yet to a new staircase, the final picture was just inspiration for a spruce up. Finally, the glass "banisters" are lovely, but all that goes through my head is "kids and fingerprints"!...See MoreNew House - but what on earth do we do with our living room?
Comments (9)Here’s what I would do ....get rid of striped wallpaper and paint the walls . Place a large mantle mirror over the fireplace . Position one sofa at right angles to fireplace ( as it is now ) but have two chairs opposite with coffee table in centre. A console table , in same position , but slimmer with a curated collection of art work above if . On the long fireplace wall I would consider floating shelves at different heights with plants and accessories. Play around with placing furniture. It’s amazing how moving something a few inches can make a difference to the balance of a room . Same with art work....don’t dot it around or hang it too high . Have fun !...See Moreadrianlowery
