Painting fitted wardrobes?
Comments (62)Hello fhparis I painted my 1980's fitted dark brown wardrobes a year ago. I was able to remove a shelf which i used to practice on and to get an idea of the finish i could achieve. Or indeed if i could do it. Your wardrobes are lighter in colour which is a plus. I mentioned the products i used in an earlier post. Dont underestimate how long it will take to do. I think i applied 3 undercoats and at least 3 top coats. It was well worth the effort and cost a fraction of buying new wardrobes. The pics show 2 sets of painted wardrobes. Best of luck with your project...See MoreHelp decide on colour for laminate fitted wardrobes
Comments (3)Hello Karina, I see what you mean. It depends on the feel you want for your bedroom. Do you want a pop of colour ? By the picture in the room it looks like you do not mind this. If yes you can cover them with wallpaper. Get an Acrylic/ perspex mirror. Or attach coloured perspex. Or just completely change the doors to a colour. Using colours from your picture, headboard or ottoman. Pastel colours for calm, brights for a wow or for exotic look golds, metallics, which will go with your other picture. If you have space move the ottoman to the foot of the bed and then make that recess area into a snug seating area with a comfy chair small table to put a drink on and a plant which will change the look and could guide you more. Mmm! The more I look at it could be that area just needs to be covered so that same doors that will give it an more complete cohesive look. Then paint it a gloss, rather than a matt. Laminate painting can be a mare so you could check out your local garage that spray paints cars and they could spray paint the doors evenly. Or buy a spray gun and do it yourself. Then it would like a more of a built in. I think more personal objects will guide you too. If we can see the other blue gold picture it will give us more of an Idea to work on. Blue gold yellow and teal sound exotic, so a feature wall in those exotic colours will take your eye away from the built ins. Or maybe then put the same wall paper with the comfy chair in the recess.... Have fun....See MoreFitted wardrobes - Backing Advice
Comments (13)It really does depend on the property. It could fix the problem or it could make it much worse. There are a number of reasons why you will get damp. Water ingress - caused by some damage whether a leaking pipe, guttering or from neighbouring property or from damage to the structure e.g. the roof or damp proof course. Poor ventilation - older properties had built in ventilation. Solid brick walls were designed to "breathe". Covering these in materials like vinyl paper prevents the movement of moisture through the wall. The moisture becomes trapped and causes damp. Excess moisture - people, pets, appliances, bathrooms and kitchens all produce moisture. If this moisture isn't allowed to escape it will cause damp. So in answering your question. It will depend on your property and the way it is used. Thermal lining paper could work in a house that has damp caused by condensation by keeping warm moist air away from cold walls you eliminate the condensation point. However the same lining paper in a house that has moisture in the wall because of water ingress would make the damp problem much worse by trapping the water in the wall and not allowing it to dry out. All houses since ancient times are designed with systems (roofs, guttering, drains, breathable materials, heating, vents, chimneys, mechanical extraction, damp proof course etc) to prevent excess moisture indoors. It's usually people messing with these systems or damage to them that causes damp problems. The first step in fixing any damp problem is finding the cause. Once you've found the cause you can eliminate it at the source and so generally don't need overpriced damp proofing solutions sold by the damp proofing "experts"....See MoreWhat should come first, wood flooring or fitted wardrobes?
Comments (3)You can't fit Fitted wardrobes onto floors like Engineered or Solid Wood flooring or laminates and these need to move independently to the furniture. So these types of floor need to be fitted to the Wardrobes. A Dry Back glue down LVT floor could be installed and the Wardrobes installed over the top if required. This also applies to anyone looking at having a kitchen installed. Always Empty area, Level Floor, Install Kitchen First, flooring last....See MoreMBH Carpentry and Joinery Ltd.
