Bedroom colour scheme and curtains?

I have bought this roll top bed - the colour is 'French grey' and the material is velvet but don't want to introduce too many 'shades of grey' or lots of clashing textures when styling the bedroom. What material would you suggest for curtains? Silk? more velvet?

Also, should we keep the walls, ceilings and skirting all white? Should we perhaps introduce a feature wallpaper but not too bold and would clash with the imposing headboard?

I love some lusciousness in my bedroom ... reds. pinks and oranges! (yes I also have lighter softer colours but like some fun thrown it too otherwise feels so boring). Am surprised that pink wasn't one of the choices! People talk a lot about serenity and seem to forget about other types of energy in the bedroom. It is said that the bedroom is mainly for 2 things both beginning with "S" and yet most people seem to only focus on the sleep bit.

Hi there.. Looks like a great project ... And a great size room.. So if the room is south facing that means light... Maybe lots of it.? So dark furniture. Light to medium walls.. Soft whites, greys maybe a follow through from what you may have existing in your home.. But some vibrant fabrics to lift the colours.. Yellow or mustard. Bright and sunny oranges, reds. This can be used in the throws, bedding, cushions. Art work.. Then whenever you fancy a change.. It's easy and not as costly.. There are lots of enthusiastic people on here, and more photos that you could ever imagine... Good luck and please may we see your results.!!

It sounds to me that the room needs some pattern and the wallpaper idea will sort that. If you are trying to avoid florals there are lots of geometric or retro patterns you could consider. You then likely need an additional accent colour and the earlier comment is right that pink goes very well with navy- but so do most other colours- in my opinion the navy is such a strong choice the accent should perhaps be a softer pastel colour but teal, white, coral, and brassy golds also contrast.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! The little greene slaked lime paint certainly looks like a nice colour and along the lines of what i was thinking for the main bulk of the walls. I am new to this so still unaware of all these bespoke companies and what they can offer!! The point you make Daisy about possibly making a feature is interesting, what sort of contrast colour do you think would work well with such furniture? I have done a bit of research and seen this furniture used with blue colours in some applications, although not bedrooms. The only element of the furniture in the main bedroom is the recessed shelving unit as shown in the top photo - the rest are in the separate dressing room. Thank you once again.

Hello Laura,

Photographs of the room would help but please find our advice below.

We understand that you'd like a neutral but warm scheme in this bedroom, right? Colour-wise, you can layer off-whites and taupes (warm greys) with a few slightly darker accents in the form of piping to cushions or trims to the curtains. You could add a rug under the bed to make the room more cosy too. We would not have velvet curtains but rather cotton and/or wool curtains. The ceiling should be white/off-white, the walls could be a slightly darker warm white and the skirting/woodwork could be a warm medium grey colour. Don't be scared to have a feature wall; the wallcovering could be a neutral pattern in colours not too far off your walls.

Having a feature wall is a great way to introduce a colour theme to the room.

How about something like this?

Subtle enough not to clash with your new headboard but also adds some little touches of colour to the room which you could mirror with pillows, art or even curtains if you wanted to!
