All depends on location and what surrounds the summer house. Are there large trees or shrubs either side, or is it just fence behind. What aspect is it facing, north or south? What style is your garden, cottage or contemporary etc?

I think putting a hard building in that gap would be a mistake. You need some gorgeous landscaping and you could create a fabulous vista there. I have attached some pictures of what I think could work really well. Also have a look at hazel hurdles, you can install these with ease ( wooden posts driven into the ground and the hurdles attached to it. They have a wonderful soft appearance against green planting and sit well in any type of gardens. That would give you a lovely view from inside and increase the feeling of space in the garden, then maybe a garden room can sit somewhere else in the garden to give you that extra room you need? photo credit @hannah dean interiors

We’ve had a large summerhouse built and have been using it since Dec. It has a toilet and shower and sink for doing a little washing up. It’s being used as an office as well as a man games room. It’s about 70m from our house and the water supply and drainage was a must to gain maximum usage and also stop dirty children running through the house in the summer. We did have a water supply half way up from a previous installation. The drainage added cost, but the company we went with used a pumped system which needed much less digging and can be hidden in bushes. We have 2 wall heaters for heat, as we decided to save on the cost of under floor heating. The floor is very cold, slippers are a must - I’m not sure that underfloor would have been enough though. Ive been using Osmo Oil on garden seating for years. I sand and re-apply it every year, not really feasible for a whole building. The oil peels up if applied too thickly so i prefer to rub it in with a cloth. The cedar wood has aged to a dark grey colour, much depends on the type of wood but I know of nothing that will make it keep its ”as new” colour. I would paint your building with a proprietary outdoor shed and fence paint or stain.
