What do you look for when purchasing bed linen?

There are various factors to consider when looking to purchase new bed linen - thread count, weave, design... What is most important to you?

We personally think that linens should be above 300 thread count. Below 300 thread count the yarns are too thick to provide the smoothness we must expect from good quality linen.

However, above 300 thread count, what matters is not the highest thread count at all, but rather the quality of the yarn itself because you can only weave great linen with good long staple yarns.

Pay attention to the feel of the fabric on the top side but also on the underside of the linen you are contemplating buying. The underside will reveal how well woven it is and how tight the weave is...

We recommend you choose the best weave for you: satin or percale depending on whether you like your linen light and cool or soft and silky. Only then, do choose your thread count.

Tartan, glossy hot pink stripes, orange elephants, ethnic stripes, bizarre patterns, we have 'em all. And some white too. The white is the highest quality cotton of all of ours so somewhat luxurious in feel. But, we discovered that white must be washed quite often (ie more than once every 6 months) or else the pillows go yellow. And of course you ought not to bleed or spill red wine on it, which is really getting a bit beyond reasonable don't you think... Patterns are practical!

Like many others I always air the bed first, at least as long as it takes to drink the two cups of coffee I need before I can even speak let alone function :D I have to make the bed myself as no one else seems to be able to get the arrangement of pillows, cushions and throw right - OCD me? Never!

Story of my life with a huge family of grown up children, partners, grandchildren and others. Enjoy seeing them immensely , a few tips: a large expandable table (ours expands twice) cheap bed linen which washes and dries quickly travel cot and bed settee,/ futon. As well as back up inflatable beds from the camping world. large beautiful vintages chests and cupboards for toys, art stuff etc a selection on the current Disney films and music (frozen, obviously) labelled doors for the forgetful elder. waterproof sheets (that don't look like this) spare toothbrushes, toiletries, Calpol, medicines, flannels and wipes. loads of biscuits. a huge snack basket. extra chairs, tables (garden ones are fine) and cloths (waterproof ones are good) in attractive colours. ask late sleepers to move upstairs and hide your best whisky! don't bother to downsize lol

We are in the market of selling luxury furniture, so would recommend quality and style above all. If you can afford luxury new items thats all very well, they are beautifully made and offer gorgeous styles that can stand the test of time. However, we also understand not everyone has the budget to be able to do so. If your budget is lower, be savvy and buy traditional or contemporary pieces at auction. Use your imagination and buy quality second hand furniture and accessories that are design classics for a fraction of the price. Use interior design techniques that feature colour and textures to bring out the best in your choices. You can then incorporate inexpensive items as long as they are interestingly designed. Inexpensive ....and dull...is definitely not an option.
