Hi Tavolla, As you didn't provide much information, I thought I would give you a creative layout to help you think outside of the box a bit. Your living and dining rooms are very "normal" layouts in the UK and many people tent to be very unimaginative when positioning furniture and laying them out ;-) Also, I don't know anything about you or your family and usually I woudl want to know how you live before providing a layout for anyone. But I thought, no-one had given you any help yet, so why not just do a fun sketch! I also don't know your level of knowledge or design aesthetic, so please don't be offended if I explained the obvious ;-) So here is your quick layout sketch. I hope it will help you set up a lovely home. My only other note, is if you plan on hanging pendants above the table like I have drawn, ensure that they align with the centre of the opening to the living room or very obviously off centre, so that they don't look like a mistake. Be deliberate with your choices and have a good reason behind their placement. If you chose this kind of layout, the lights and the table will "steal the show", so if it were me, this is where I woudl invest my money, as they will be visible from 3 rooms - all of the time. Hi N K hope the move is going well and you are enjoying the new home. what you can do to combat this issue of off-centering is use a simple hook and grip to loop the cable over from the outlet so that you get a centre hang. Please see image below. There isnt an exact science to hanging heights as everyone is different, but you should try offering it up and seeing what works best for you so that you do not have to keep changing it for watching the tv. hope this helps

These comments are great! Diana - love your comment on the table Luckily it's just an Ikea table I attacked with spray paint some years ago so more than ready to ditch it! Definitely thinking plants, lamps and maybe a chair with small table under the window. Jules you're right about the Christmas tree - I'm getting it earlier each year to spend more time with it! Sam I love the brick look (and am thinking of including it in the new kitchen - if we ever get around to doing it). Thank you randoms on the internet! Was thinking of getting rid of the shelves and built in cupboard and putting a 'cool' cabinet for the to go on one side and a small table with picture above it the other? Will def put a mirror above the fireplace. Won't be the one in the room now as that's too big - it will be relegated to the landing . Thanks all! X
