Small Bathroom Design Dilemma

Hi all, we are about to move into our first house from our flat and are lucky in that the house is very neutral and doesn't need a lot of immediate attention, However, we would like to replace the bathroom as soon as possible. Can any of your help with layout ideas to make the best of the space. I have attached a before photo and floor plan for reference and the dimensions according to the right move spec are 7'2" x 6'7"... hope you can help! Also attached some pictures of styles we like but definitely open to ideas! TIA.

Congrats on the purchase !
Looks like the soil pipe goes straight outside to a downpipe ? That's your starting point with any bathroom project. As that's the most expensive thing to change - so either work around it as it is - ie keep loo there - or prepare to payout a bit more to move things. Although I do design bathrooms - I tend to suggest a brainstorm with your plumber on site as a first step. As they can see where the water comes in and can go out - and they can advise what's possible to change and what's not - so that's the best place to start in my opinion!

Thank you so much for your reply! We have looked at keeping the bathroom suite as it seems a shame to lose the cast iron bath ... however, we want a shower over the bath and the shower curtain just isn't cutting it so it looks like the clawfoot bath will be going :(

From what your describing we had the same thing going on,I didn't like the ensuite( too small) and the bathroom needed to be bigger,so we got rid of the ensuite and put a door between our bedroom and bathroom like a jack and Jill.After a while I felt it just didn't work so we closed up the wall and we now have one big bathroom.im glad we did it now. I too wondered if it would devalue the house and I'm sure if a larger family moved in it could be a bit of a problem,maybe someone from the real estate world will pop in and give you some advice. Good luck with whatever way you choose to go.

The shorter the run for wc waste better, ditto without 90 degree angles. 200cm is a very long bath. If it was dropped to 180cm x 80 cm it could go behind the door with the WC at the end of it facing into the room. I personally don’t like walking into a room with the WC. Directly ahead. Baths under windows are also a nuisance unless you can help it. I’m not sure what style of shower enclosure you’re considering - could the vanity go at the end of it with a mirror over? Sorry, I haven’t got time today to draw it up, but there are other Houzz folks who might be able to, given your timescale is short.

That's one photo gone right :) Curious to see the rest (and the exact measurements). Using the original tile might be dificult as you've removed a wall. I'd also suggest insulating the exterior wall and windows, as it will pay itself back in the future. With special bubble foil and cement board it will not take up too much space (and the exterior wall can still breathe). A bath on the attic floor sounds like a bad idea, or an expensive on at the least. Our little boy preferred showers since the age of two, so don't base your decision on kids. They love those little plastic baths too. (Loads of dutch households don't have a bath.) Cisterns are great for modern bathrooms (but when they fail, it's quite a hassle), so the question is are you creating a somewhat 1920s bathroom or a modern style?

Hello Sarah,

If you have to keep the toilet where it is for soil pipe/ budget reasons, you probably already have the best layout with bath under window.

Would you consider keeping the bathtub which does look lovely. Change your shower system to a boiler linked one and move your shower head to the ceiling (a waterfall shower). Re shower curtain, have a long flowing linen shower curtain made backed by thick plastic on the inside to protect from water, but looks beautiful on the outside.

The pics you posted are elegant and easy to achieve...wood effect floor tiles, metro tiles on wall, some built in storage and nice towels.

Maybe some colour through orchids? They thrive in bathrooms.

Any chance you could fit in a quadrant shower enclosure in the corner where the storage unit is in the photo? There might then be foom for a basin opposite the wc and to then to keep the bath.. ?
