Dream kitchen dilemmas Which cabinetry colour would you choose?

The Knole kitchen makes apparent the possibilities inherent in a totally bespoke kitchen design, created to fit in with the unique personality of your home. Out of these two cabinetry colours, which one would be best suited in your dream kitchen?

We have found that our clients are favouring using 2 colours on their cabinetry. Usually a neutral, white, cream or muted light grey then use a contrasting colour on key pieces.

Ha @gabby :-) it’s called the elica seashell, I originally seen it on John Lewis website at a whopping near 2.5k!! After a bit of digging I found a seller on eBay with fantastic feedback and a great price, around 1k delivered! I took a deep breath and ordered it, about a month later it turned up, brand new and from what I can see, shipped direct from elica company themselves! It looks unreal! The light actually lights up the whole kitchen too as a large a down lighter, I have 4 recessed down lighters around my island and two large pendant light above my dining table, also have kickboard strip led and wall unit strip led lights too, so plenty of combos to light the kitchen when needed.

Having looked through your idea book, I would say that 70 percent of the pictured have a similar style to them, broadly speaking. Warmer tones, some darker wood / walnut, many of them handleless. As a next step, I would go back to all the pictures and write down the elements that appeal to you, and be quite specific. If there is one picture that stands out to you as having the right overall balance you can use this as a template when planning your kitchen, even if for example it has shaker doors, but you might want handleless. You also need to consider how the kitchen will look against existing elements in the room, and things you might be planning for the living area. Then consider the practical elements, ie pros and cons of different doors, finishes, worksurfaces etc. Some of this will depend on your circumstances, do you cook a lot, want easy to clean etc? There's lots of articles on Houzz covering that kind of thing. Budget will also play a big part. For my part, I went with a handless German kitchen, with a matt finish with a quartz worktop. I cook a lot and have found this combination very easy to keep clean.

Just to weigh in on the Howdens comments, the key is to make sure you know someone in the trade who can put you forward to them, that way you just get dealt with as a trade using their account. They do have sales on but generally speaking the price doesn't fluctuate much through the year, except when they have their big sale on which is usually October time. I do use Howdens and no, they're not perfect but most of the grumbles I hear are more to with customer service which don't fall in line with the glossy showroom kitchen providers. The quality of the kitchens is very good (25 year warranty iirc) so if you have access to them then do get a quote from them. I think what I would say is that if you go to Howdens, expect a slightly tradesman type relationship (the showrooms are far from impressive) but a key thing is that they hold stock on most items. If you get a damaged door for example, it can be replaced next day, try getting that out of Homebase....... With regard to appliances, we have SMEG in our kitchen and I'd never buy it again. Hobbs been fine, but three new ovens on warranty and whilst it now works fine, the previous two didn't. Previously we had Bosch for everything and it all worked faultlessly, so I can't recommend them enough.

I prefer Ariel with the vein, as the clean white will bend with the white cabinets with the veins complimenting the dark wood cabinets. But go with the one that you went 'OOH' first, you will find that if you love something, then all your 'loves' compliment each other! Plus its too expensive not to.... We are choosing Silestone Orion which is a mottled white-grey with plenty of veining to hide the dirt! Plus shop around as the Silestone quote we got from a local Gold Approved was nearly half that of other local Gold Approved Silestone suppliers.... Good luck!
