need help to choose kitchen wall colour

Hello All,

Firstly, a big thank you for all the support and advice on my previous queries.

Now that my kitchen is ready, I am looking to paint my kitchen walls. Initially I thought of putting a light blue ( I call it sky blue) on walls. so painted half of it. But it's not looking good. I have installed a Ivory Brown Granite worktop, shaker style cream cabinates and natural oak vinyl flooring. I have added few photos of my new kitchen with this query.

any help, advice are most welcome.

It's a bit urgent though.

I would go with a grey and accessories in a sage green, maybe. One thing, we are in the middle of ripping out our kitchen and are having flirting problems; I love your flooring, what is it, where did you get it from? Oh, and do post photos when you've picked a wall colour!

I'd paint the walls a similar colour to the units. For me, this would highlight the worktops and flooring. If you felt you needed to inject a little colour you could do this with small appliances light kettle and toaster or flowers. Testing a colour out first with fabric (cushions or favourite clothes) and taking photos will save money.

Hi,

lovely Kitchen, particularly love the worktop and flooring!
I like the walls as white but to add further interest, I'd do the walls in an off-white light grey or a light taupe colour (picking out one of the worktop colours)

I have been advised to paint the colour of the walls the same as the white cabinets to avoid highlighting how off white my cabinets are. However won't this make the kitchen look bland. Can you advise what colour I could use as a feature wall to add contrast /tonal. Also which wall(s) would you chose as a feature wall.

Is there a pattern on your sofa or is it just the velvet material that is brushed in different directions? The silvery grey colour that it is could be mixed with most colours eg dark grey eg railings , or you could go with brighter bolder colours there are so many different colours of blues, creams, yellows etc. Remember you can accessorise with rugs, cushion covers, picture frames, curtains etc.

Update - alabaster painted oak units, oak worktop, (curved end units and worktop corners) belfast sink, 1100 stainless steel rangemaster porcelain large high gloss ivory 600x600 floor tiles, ivory grout - please see attached look book just still to decide on shade of sage on walls - deciding between F&B Mizzle, Vert De Terre, Ball Green and Cooking Apple Green... Also metro sub/way tiles on walls - whether to go for a sage tile or cream/white... The dining room area off the kitchen will have oak parquet floor which will follow through from hall and will also be in the lounge but Im thinking of following the wall colour in the kitchen through to the dining room for continuity and potentially painting the chimney brest or wall furthest away from and facing the kitchen a darker green complementary colour... Thoughts please

Hello Shahida, You could create something dramatic to compliment.. A fantastic tile company called Bert & May do a whole range from reclaimed, handmade, concrete and more.. You could tile a row on the wall round the edge of the worktop to compliment the flooring.. :)) http://www.bertandmay.com/

Hi Nikhil, we'd suggest a shade of grey. It's a really versatile shade that won't upset the rest of the neutral colours in the room. It also means you could add in pops of brighter colours in your accessories - mustard or pale blues. Good luck with your project!

Hi. Try farrow and ball shadow white, it's not quite a green, grey or cream but should work well

Hi, I would agree with Woodpecker Flooring and go with a shade of grey, but specifically one that has beige undertones rather than blue to highlight the lovely worktop and flooring while not working against the cream cabinetry. Check out Farrow and Ball's Cornforth White or one shade lighter Ammonite. You can get B&Q to colour match these colours depending on your budget. I would hesitate to go too dark considering the darker shades in the worktop and floor. Minnie101's suggestion might also be a good one. Good luck!

Hi Nihkil. I would say a pale or sage green.
Your blue is too cold against your warmer toned kitchen cupboards.
I'd avoid a palette too similar to your worktop (anything brown) as it will all look a bit flat then.
Valspar do a good colour match service (B&Q) if you find a colour you like (say in a fabric or something).

Hi there,
Was trying to zoom in on the marble behind cooker and it looks like there may be a hint of grey/green in there. F&B French Gray might just be perfect... see attached...maybe stick a sample pot on there... best of luck with it :-)

I would suggest one of two options go for a deeper more exciting colour, such emerald green. Or a neutral colour such as a deep grey.

I would choose something very close to that deep red/rust/plum (can't quite work out what it is) in the granite. It looks as if that colour is also in the tea towel on the right (hanging on the handle in front of the oven). Everything else is so light I think the room would take it well and it would give it wow factor. You need a warm colour, as someone else has said, to tone with the cream of the cabinets and the granite.

Deep cherry red on some walls, same colour as units on others (preferably those that do not have units) This colour always looks great with light colours and natural wood. It is dramatic. You would think it would make the room dark, but so long as it isn't on every wall, it doesn't, quite the reverse.

Feathers of a dove in the valspar range is a beautiful warm colour ...grey/ green colour depending on the light.will work well with the cabinets & spotlights.

Turquoise. Because you already have a leaning towards blue, but it is more adventurous. Because it is likely that your items already have blue or match blue, unless you want to change everything. Because it goes with a sea side theme, which you love- Look at the bark edge. Because it goes with the wooden floor (which you don't want to change) Because it will pop and detract from the cabinets which are oh so boring white.
