Where to get slim frame aluminium powder coated French doors

Our builders have offered us the doors on the attached image but am I mad to think the frames are really chunky?! I really wanted the frames to be as slim as possible to let in as much light as possible. Where can I get some super slim frames? I know that you can use bi fold doors as French doors but they are saying they aren't proper French doors then. Surely there's a middle ground?

Same here. I am STILL mad about frameless no threshold(totally flat) , flush finish, integrated drain system patio sliding door. I now have given up having slim...( wanna cry~~~)

IQ glass is the proper one that everything ticks for my dream but their price was about £4,600+vat for 2120*2300 one(I needed too) plus Preliminaries and attendances fees just less than £900 if you live too far they will ask you another £8,000 to fit. Apparently they have lots of complaints from customers. Not sure about U value calculations or energy efficiency though.

Another company is Reynaers was cheaper but their U value was not much warmer than normal UPVC patio doors.

If anyone has different opinion please let me know.

@Tani H-S Most professionals that refurbish uPVC windows will spray. You need the right equipment, you must prepare the surfaces properly before applying and most importantly you need the right paint (that properly bonds to the surface, has UV protection and thermal movement elasticity). It sounds like you need some fully coloured up / rendered drawings [elevations or 3D] of at least two options [maybe more], one with white frames and one with grey / anthracite frames so you can compare. I don't think there's a right or wrong answer, just your personal preference. I usually specify an off white / ivory colour for window frames as this is more subtle and doesn't show the dirt as much. You could possibly look at a very light grey / silver as an alternative. Depending on the manufacturer and cost you could go for a coloured anodised finish which will give it a slight sparkly sheen. You can also get bi-coloured frames, different colours inside and out. I think anthracite coloured and bi-fold will look clunky and out dated in a few years, fashions come and go. If you don't want curtains overhanging the frames 750mm probably better than 600. However, speak to your curtain co. now before you get the work done as they should be able to tell you how much wall space you need. Thicker curtains with backing fabric take up more space. Have you considered timber blinds as an alternative, shouldn't take up as much space? Personally, I think a split of 3 panes is better. Always in odd nos, 3, 5, 7, etc. This means your eyes subconsciously centre on the middle pane. This is quite a classical, ordered approach [look at stately homes porticos] but it works. If worried about visible glazing frames go for ultra slim sliders such as ID Systems 'the edge' or Schueco, Raynaeurs are good but expensive.

Hi Greg, I think the windows definitely need to change. Casement does seem like a good option as it gives you more glass and are affordable. You could go for some powder coated aluminium to match the garage? but this is a much higher price. The door is a nice touch and I personally like them but it really depends on the style you are going for with your interiors (and exteriors) and whether this is in keeping with that. Is it something you need? and if not.. will it really support the style you are going for? I think it is hard to give too much advise because I don't really know what you are trying to achieve at this point. There is no right or wrong answer - and as suppliers and installers of award winning versions of both bifold AND sliding door systems we have no bias towards one or the other. Our teams install nationally, from Shetland to the Channel Islands...and everywhere in between. When we get asked this question by customers there are a number of initial things we would ask to try and make some recommendations - and we have written a blog all about these. Probably the most valuable question is realistically how often are you likely to have the doors fully open. Our SF55 aluminium bifold doors can be manufactured up to 1.1m wide and have an industry leading narrow sightline of 115mm (the amount of frame visible when closed) and over a 29' 6" run of 9x1m panels you will have 8 intermediate frames totalling 920mm of aluminium. We do two aluminium sliding door systems the Grand Slider (83mm sightlines) or our award winning theEDGE (narrow 24mm sightline) - both can take glass sizes of up to 3m wide so over a 9m run of 3x3m panels you will have 166mm of intermediate aluminium visible with the Grand Slider and just 48mm visible with theEDGE. So if your doors are closed more often than open there is significantly less frame than glass in sliding doors - maximising your views - however the trade off is that unless you opt for a pocket slider you are not able to open a sliding door completely to create a total 9m opening like you are with bifold doors - you would only open 6m of the 7m (or 6.75m if you went for four sliding door panels). In terms of thermal performance both SF55 and the sliding door systems can be double or triple glazed and achieve pretty similar U-Values and in terms of price the SF55 and Grand Slider systems work out to be almost identical - although theEDGE is a bit more because of the advanced engineering required to create such a narrow profile. There is also the option of the SF75 bifold door which has a U-Value of 0.9W/m2K which is the lowest of any aluminium system on the market. Given your location and your views, my personal recommendation would be sliding doors, because you maximise your views even when closed - but it is whatever is best for you and it may well be a combination of sliding doors and fixed frames provide the perfect and cost effective solution. I really want to have them if they are less than 4k for two and very warm in winter as our floor might be porcelain tile. Haven't decided yet. The work starts within two weeks time. My builder said it would take at least 7~8weeks to get delivered after bricks up and measure exact size then we can't be able to move in on time, also cannot put low threshold. He explained something that it will touches something... ah~ I couldn't understand anyway.
