Comments (20)The photo you used is definitely giant fennel because the same pic came up in a google search, however you are right to ask a local. Here in Ibiza the Ibicencans pick all kinds of food from the field boundaries and woods all year. At the moment it is mostly aspargus, wild garlic and the fresh bright green shoots of normal fennel. Mushrooms are a big thing in the autumn and most of the year there is a green veg that looks and tastes similar to spinach. Also the Med has sage and rosemary everywhere. I am still learning for when I retire, I have some land around the house with all of the above plus almonds, olives, oranges, lemons, pomegranite and a lovely fruit called Nispera in Spain but my Spanish mate Chema tells me there is a lot more that is both healthy and free. Comments (26)Thanks :) and that’s the sort of thing I’ve been considering. For example I could make the pattern of frames and mounts part of the display by having them uniform and choosing images that are almost monochrome. There are lots of sky or sea scapes or portraits to choose from that are almost monochrome. The other thought was to buy a large size print and cut down to use just a portion of it so it’s “disguised” and just being used for its light and dark contrasts. But there are so many images that are really amazing that I wonder if a should just pick one for each of the walls. ?? Will let the thoughts percolate for a while I think. And when I fo something will post back. At one point I was thinking of trying to make my own Japanese Enso symbol. Part of its significance is practise making the drawer of it better I believe. Sometimes they draw it with a big calligraphy brush and I saw on a tv program a Japanese artist using a brush that was as big as a mop!...See MoreHow can we make the porch look modern, please help!
Comments (23)hi Neverforever, I think you really need to repair the entire side of the house- looking at the photos you provided, the entire side of the house look as though you have a number of spalled bricks,which have suffered from frost damage. whatever you decide as a finish , you should address these in the final decision to protect your home. I think that the amount of space lost at the side cladding the house in timber , would not lose a lot of space in the driveway. you have pipes at the side protruding at low level. Can you advise on the width of the space between the two houses. you own half of this width and have a right of way over the neighbouring house for driving your car, so this shouldn't really cause issues with the neighbour. A timber clad would provide a modern update to the look of the porch, whilst the render and paint would be a simpler update. you might want to look at external insulation and a render finish to the entire house.
