what kind of professionnal could help me choose wall colours?

Hello, I plan to redecorate a few rooms in my house (parental bedroom, child bedroom, dining room). I have difficulties to decide what I want. are there professionals out there that help with colour schemes? if yes, how are they called and how much do they tend to charge?

Hi,

If it's help in terms of decorating that you are seeking, it's an interior designer you want to be consulting.

Alternatively, if you want some advice on multiple areas, such as flow of space, lighting, how spaces connect, interior design etc, a concept planner may be useful.

Whilst many interior designers offer a one to one service, many also offer a remote, online package.

You could also look for a colour consultant. Some of the paint companies also offer such a service such as farrow and ball and little Greene. Dulux may also offer one

Fees for interior designers, colour consultants differ hugely. You could also create a design dilemma for each room and see if people on here can help for free! Include photos so people can see what furnishings you have and detail how much light each room gets and which way it faces

Thanks again :) Hadn't thought about Christmas! Oops, you're right of course, I will have to grab samples if I can and line them up and see what they look like. We've just had the window ripped out and the increase in light is amazing! This at least means I wont be too worried incorporating red in fear of the room looking too dark. The chair rail is a good idea, I'm assuming it's similar to what I referred to as a dado rail? Wooden trim halfway height around the room? We've just ripped ours off, haha, merely because I wanted to completely change the look of the room. Hmm, maybe I've been premature with that decision, it would have allowed me to add a strong colour and still be able to balance it.... Our children are now grown up, one left home, one back and forwards as attending University so no issues with small sticky fingers. However, we do have an incredibly energetic springer spaniel, so I do need the option to 'paint over' any areas he decided he particularly likes! :D

Oh, Rachelle, I'm so sorry, after all your research and planning and bravery!! Well, there's is nothing wrong with cream, but I completely understand how you wanted to climb out of that box of one colored crayons, lol. It is what it is, I do hope that you'll be able to build your pergola and I also hope you can introduce a bit of color with your door, this color is from sherwin Williams, it's SW 6480 lagoon, it would be beautiful with a cream house color and a terracotta roof. Good luck, and I'd love to see your final result, please post a picture at the end of project. And I'm glad you're upbeat and looking at the "sunny side" :)

maria galvano thank you, I love them too and make me smile whenever I look at them, I bought them from a Bedouin woman in Petra (Jordan). They remind me of an amazing trip to Syria and Jordan some years ago, travelling independently using public transport and meeting amazing people along the way, both locals and tourists. Loved Petra so much and the local Bedouin people, went back for a second day to have another look around as well as sit and drink mint tea and listen to amazing stories ... and yes, they make my home feel alive as most things in it have some connection to a life lived. I would choose something very close to that deep red/rust/plum (can't quite work out what it is) in the granite. It looks as if that colour is also in the tea towel on the right (hanging on the handle in front of the oven). Everything else is so light I think the room would take it well and it would give it wow factor. You need a warm colour, as someone else has said, to tone with the cream of the cabinets and the granite.
