Kitchen/living area, wallpaper ideas please?

Hi there, we are currently undergoing a full house renovation. We have had a few walls knocked down which means we have created a kitchen/living area to work for the whole family spanning the full length of the house including bifolds. We had the black granite fitted today and the medium oak laminate flooring fitted the other day. Our cupboards are cream with silver handles. At the end of the room we plan on having the 'living area.' I would like to have a feature wall where the TV will be but I'm a bit frazzled as I ordered wallpaper samples with grey granite in mind but that has subsequently changed.
We would like the living area of the room to feel somewhat separate in terms of decoration from the kitchen. We have chosen different lightings for both parts but it's the wallpaper which I need some help/suggestions with.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hi,

It's a bit difficult to suggest something without knowing your style of furniture. If you could post some photos of the space in a comment under here, it would be very helpful.

I've just picked out some of the colours you mentioned to go work with, it is a little hard to suggest things without a bit more direction, but I thought as a jumping off point incorporating the black but not making it too dark was a good place as any!

Here is the sofa I have bought the room floor plan (the snug area is the bottom left area) the corner sofa will go in the bottom left corner with the long but along the left wall -facing the fire and the short bit against the bottom wall (as in the picture) I have also attached a photo of the wall paper against the sofa - but obviously it is no where near to scale!!! Oh also flooring will be oak herringbone parquet and a slate hearth for the stove ... Any Help and advice would be much appreciated - Thankyou!!

Hi. You've got some lovely furniture. One option is to go for grasscloth or grasscloth effect wallpaper which will add texture or a silk effect paper. If you went for that option, I would swap your lampshade (maybe an ikat pattern) and change a couple of cushions to bring pattern in. Another option is a geometric paper. This one is ornament chic, I've pictured it in charcoal/silver but they also do a lighter version. If you like geometrics have you tried thibaut or zoffany papers? Wallpaper is so personal it's hard to make suggestions but you could also look at metallic papers. Perhaps a paint like strong white by farrow and ball for the walls which is a very pale but warm grey but there are lots of paint options. Have you ever thought of swapping the tv and sofa in the alcove around ( although I don't know how many of you live there!) out of interest? I would add a large mirror in the alcove to bounce light. You could also look at nickel plant pots ( try India Jane) for maybe some white flowers or other nickel or chrome accessories just to bounce a little more light.

Do you want to get rid of your wallpaper or just add more in to tone down the overall brownness of the room ? I'd add in a vibrant blue or green maybe? Just change the chairs? Greens go very well with your colour scheme. A 'Twig' mirror will also go with your chosen them of naturals.

Thanks Minnie, I will look for a couple of darker accessories to bring the room together. We loved the grape wallpaper and had it until recently, as we fancied a change. We haven't had the grey wallpaper long unfortunately, but it just doesn't look right so decided to have a redo. (This is the only chance I've got though so anxious to get it right!) We are upgrading to a bigger TV, but it's still in the box at the moment! Hopefully the electrician who will hang it on the wall will be able to fit us in this week or next, and then I can decide what to put above the sideboard and piano. I know the TV will be wider than the TV cabinet but unfortunately we can't change any of the furniture. I'm hoping to find a way to make it look more balanced maybe by placing something on either side of the TV cabinet like plants and/or lanterns. Here's another photo of the wallpapers up on the wall - I'm maybe leaning towards the left one, as I like the textured look - might be longer lived than the patterns? I'm not sure.
