Hallway under stairs area
Comments (13)Hi Marie! I think you have such a lovely space underneath the stairs, that it would be a shame to just put a console table there. The costings to get a carpenter to build a simple but effective display unit (see below) will probably be around £200-250. I think it would be great to use that space below to add something a bit more exciting, and you can add lovely bits of decor to make it even more wow! i.e vases, statues, plants etc......See MoreIdeas for jazzing up hallway and stairs?
Comments (4)Congratulations on your new home! How exciting! We think the paint colours you have selected sound lovely and a great place to start. The previous owners have placed wallpaper on opposite walls which has the effect of making the staircase look far more narrow than it actually is. I think it would look better to have the same treatment (paint / wallpaper) on all of the walls instead to open it up further. Comments (11)Hi Charlotte, I would paint the walls in a paint with warm undertones to tie in with the warm tones of the wood. For example F&B pigeon would look great. Elephants breath, even FB Cornforth white. But also what colours do you like or are you drawn to usually? just make sure the paint has warm undertones and not cool. I would also suggest getting some lining paper and some tester pots of these colours I suggested or others you like, paint a large piece of the paper in each of the paint colours, and then pin these to the hallway walls, trying them in various areas of the hallway to see what they look like at different times of day, as the colours can look quite different in different lights. Hope this helps you. Also please check out my website: https://www.ginarileyinteriors.com...See MoreHouse plan creating hallway & relocating awkward stairs
Comments (1)It depends on your budget, why you are doing it and what else you have to do. Putting up a stud wall from your front door is minor as is creating an extra doorway. Moving the stairs is a bigger undertaking as you have to do this on three floors- in turn this means every room will be disrupted, electrics and pipes will be moved, flooring will have to be replaced so it’s a big job. So you need to think about whether how much you need the loft room to be changed into on big room. You need to consider why you want to move the stairs downstairs. Then consider if you actually just want a dining room that feels less divided from the kitchen. You could of course convert the garage or you could add a ground floor extension behind the garage and living room and open it up to the kitchen. Adding square footage normally adds more to the value than moving stairs. Moving the stairs will be a little cheaper but it’s so disruptive you can only really consider this if you are ripping the rest of the house apart...See MoreKristina
