Comments (14)I agree with all of the comments, move the sofa up a little towards the door to fit a floor lamp. Add a rug and coffee table (maybe glass) and a large piece of art over the sofa. I'd opt for blinds for the window, even if you have short curtains it looks as if they'd sit on the back of the sofa? Perhaps a mirror opposite the window to bounce more light. Any number of colours would go with the charcoal sofa, purples, yellow, cerise, coral, orange etc. just look at colours you like and maybe add a 2nd for interest. I'd also pick at least one cushion with a light colour in the pattern and the same for the rug. Do try and get different textures too. In terms of the bedroom, just walnut is pretty light so I do think a darker feature wall would work with the light carpet but I would personally go for a grey. Maybe have a look at grasscloths or silk effect. I've found an image, ignore the actual wallpaper, but it may help you visualise. I would just keep your curtains in the same light grey as the walls and the bedding light....See MoreOrla Kiely wallpaper.. But what colour paint for walls?
Comments (18)I was looking for advice on exactly the same dilemma! We have chosen Orla Kiely Giant Abacus for a feature wall in the living room. Grey background, cream petals with an olive centre. We have a cream carpet and cream leather suite with mid grey armchair and room doesn't have big windows, so trying to maximise the light. What colour would you suggest for the other walls? Thank you so much for your kind suggestions!...See MoreNeed help with my unfinished bedroom!
Comments (16)Hello Joelle, I see your'e being given some great advise and ideas!! If you can't find any suitable vintage wardrobes have you considered having fitted wardrobes - painted the same colour as the pale grey walls so they blend into the background - with small discrete knobs or no knobs/handles (a push opener). Long grey curtains either dark or light I think would look great and very hotel chic. When looking for suitable material don't forget to take a sample of your wallpaper with you to check which colours work best and then ask for samples of the material to take home to check at different times of day ad evening to see which looks best in different lights. I'd consider having the long curtains as 'dress' curtain with tie backs and fit either a roman or roller blind - for privacy, warmth and to keep the room as light as possible. Moving the sideboard to opposite the bed I agree is the best place and becomes the focal point of the room - also great to see when you're actually lying in bed. You could look on e-bay for a large vintage 1950's mirror perhaps frame less with beveled edge to hang above. The long mirror I'd lean on the wall left of the window. I love your grey head board. To add luxury I'd go for a white duvet and pillow cases and use the colours in the wallpaper for throw(s) and cushions. Again don't forget to always have a sample of wallpaper and curtain material with you when shopping for these. I really like the photo of the mid century bedside table you've posted - very much in keeping with your theme and would also look to buy a ceiling light and table lamps again from that period - perhaps on e-bay? Good luck and enjoy your project! Katharine, DesignWorks....See MoreHelp with a bland kitchen/dining please!!
Comments (35)Hi everyone! Can't believe this post was from last year! We still have a couple more things to add before completing. Working full time and having toddler is taking up most of my free time ha! Anyway we went ahead with the original wallpaper we chose, when it was up we weren't too keen on it but we loves it now. The walls are painted in pale grey, a large plants added by the dining area and we have changed the dinning chairs. Do you think we still need to dress the windows and french door? Hubby didn't think we need to? Here's the family area which still need some work on. The only thing we've added here is the rug haha! Will change the cushions once it's all finished. The mirror will definitely need replacing as this one doesn't compliment the wallpaper. I've set my eyes on this mirror but just slightly concern that there's so many different colour of woods in the kitchen, or does it not matter? Still contemplating whether we need to change the large poster frames to white and add a side table by the small sofa? What do you think we have done so far? Any recommendations or advice is welcome :-) Thanks, May...See MoreCelery. Visualization, Rendering images
