Kitchen - black or white worktop, light or dark walls?
Comments (7)I have black granite work tops and a huge amount of them and an island - my reason for choosing is that I believe granite is a lot stronger in the dark colours where as marble is stronger in the light colours - I am (hope husband doesn't see this!) a little bit bored of the black work tops - they are classic but a bit dead - next time, if there is ever a next time, I would not play so safe and would go for light work tops with a bit more interest. I would steer clear of work tops unless you are prepared to really look after them and treat them regularly! As for walls - I would go light - and ensure it is a paint that you can wash splattering off! Not a basic emulsion! That way, by going light you can change colour of kitchen accessories at any time to freshen it up and update it. If I was planning a new kitchen now, I would probably go for light tops with up stands and then have a feature surface in a different material - perhaps a rounded wooden block at the end of a unit as a feature. I love my kitchen but I have played it a bit safe, on reflection!!...See MoreKITCHEN EXTENSION - where would you place the kitchen cabinets/island?
Comments (4)Do you require two doors into the kitchen/living space? If possible I would look at the options of removing the door on the right and moving the other door to left to line up with the front door in the hallway. It looks like you could pottentially gain a fair amoutn of space if this is possible....See MoreKitchen Under Cabinet lighting
Comments (2)You can get aluminium profiles which are designed to be recessed into the underside of the cabinet. That way you will have nothing sticking out. However this is only possible if your cabinet is thick enough so that it will still be strong enough once the strip is carved out. Do you know the cabinet thickness? The other option which I think looks quite neat is a quadrant profile, so like a quarter of a cylinder shape, all the way along where the splashback meets the upper cabinets. We have this in our utility and it looks good....See MoreHow to update kitchen without spending loads??
Comments (8)The tall wall of units stands out the most i feel so you could change those for now and then change the others as funds allow. Or you could get a carpenter to add panels, turn them into shaker style and get them painted. I’m not sure how well the shiny units will take to paint? Sorry can’t think of anything else! I would price up replacement doors to see exactly how much they will cost. They may be cheaper than you think....See Morechief_brody
