Curtains for large bifolds dilemma

I have 14 feet Vufold bifold doors which I want to be able to cover at night so I don't feel like I'm in a goldfish bowl.

I am concerned though that a narrow curtain rail (for lightweight curtains) will still need a bracket or two. Unsure if the minimal clearance I have above the doors risks the lintel being cracked when drilled? Any advice please. (Can't seem to be able to attach photo).

Depending on what stage you are at with the build, it may be possible to build a recess in which a curtain track sits. We have used a cheap rail and fixings from Ikea in the attached. Apologies for the poor quality photo.

We bought a track suitable for the opening / weight of curtains and then recessed it with coving while decorating. It's a nice hotel style finish and you'll struggle with a track that large otherwise

We moved into a house with bifold doors and I didn't want to spend an absolute fortune on large bespoke curtains for them. So I found some beautiful ones on the high street that were the correct height, then bought two pairs. I found an extra long curtain rail online and whilst I was going to originally sew the pairs together to make two large curtains - one either side of the door, I actually left them separate. This way I can pull three of the four closed but leave one pulled back on the opening side door, making access easier. Hope that makes sense!

Hi Kelly, I see that you have not had a reply to your question. So I would like to help, New bi-fold doors and sliding doors have an excellent thermal value. Doors can be made of multiple materials but the best in look, durability is alimininum, with aluminium and double glazed glass zed glass units you will be more than comfortable in the summer and the winter. If you are concerned about the heat coming into the room, for example, if you are south facing, we have a product called thermal glass. We use thermal glass on our roof lights; it is a treated glass that has a tint and reflects heat, the double glazed units stop heat from escaping. I have attached a few pictures of our skylight showing the thermal glass and an example of large skylights and large bifolds, honestly you will not be worried at all with large amounts glass these thermal values. I put 10 mm silver/chrome coloured blinds in between my glazing, it's well worth it. You can tilt both ways and lift them up and you never have to dust them. Then I put a pelmet above the door and let it hang down around 12/14 inches to match my soft furnishings.

We decided on a sliding door ( 1 fixed panel plus one sliding) for our 4.2m wide opening in our soon to be built house. This worked for us as we didn't want too much frame to block our view. I will have a table to be positioned fairly near the fixed panel. Most of all it was because I could control our dog going in and out by varying the opening...he likes to sit by our present sliding door and put his look out thru the gap and look out! Make sure you get a handle/locking system that's robust, some of the ones I looked at seemed really fiddly and a bit fragile for a triple glazed 2m wide door that's used a lot.
