Kitchen help - what can we do to make it look better?
Comments (65)Depending on how far you budget goes, I would look at adding traditional cornice and pelmet and replacing the plinth with a similar oyster colour. End panels for wall units could also be replaced / added. Some chessboard style tilling in 3 colours would also bring out the walls. It's hard to tell but is the oak surround also on the wall units? I haven't checked your location but this is something we can help with...See Morehow much kitchen can we fit?
Comments (21)You can't have the dining table and the kitchen adjacent to each other as 5 metres is not wide enough. Hence why I moved the plan around and the positions of things to give you more space. I don't like blocking the flow front to back by putting the Utility on the right immediately. Gaining more length will also help my type of layout as i mentioned earlier. I think you have to compromise on the snug or the utility / downstairs loo area, as the house isn't wide enough for both. Since you already have a lounge and a utility / downstairs loo will add more value, i'd go for the latter. I'd go for this type of layout at 5m extended . No snug..........you don't really need it. If you want all of the above accommodated, then you'd have to go out to around 7m. You may also find difficulty with the plumbing, so, even though I put the option of the utility and toilet on the left in my previous render, i'm not sure it would work. ( it's possible ). You would end up with something like this, but also bear in mind, that due to the depth of the extension you will need a sky lantern in the roof on the left as the snug would be dark without one....See MoreKitchen Islands - Why We All Need One In Our Kitchens
Comments (0)A kitchen island is generally a freestanding cabinet with seating that can be used as a prep area or table. It gives home cooks some useful extra space for preparing food and, for other family members, it is an informal, relaxed dining area. If you are re-designing your kitchen, here are some particularly good reasons why you should integrate a kitchen island: Benefits Of A Kitchen Island Extra Cupboards- any normal kitchen generates clutter and the ability of the island to negate disorganisation is a bonus for any homeowner. Depending on the kitchen island design, you can have curved drum cupboards, open shelving or wine racks as extra storage areas that are easier to access than regular cupboards. Strong Design Statement- a kitchen island adds a new look to your kitchen. New elements like beautifully mottled stone worktops, sleek cladding materials and striking colours can make your kitchen looking more modern and stylish. More Social-Friendly Setting- with a kitchen island, you can stay social with family members and friends. To encourage people to gravitate towards the kitchen island, you may add a worktop overhang or breakfast bar. Whether it is for relaxed Sunday brunches or casual dining, the kitchen island can make everyone more social. Perfect For Children- a kitchen island can be an ideal work area for children, whether for doing homework or experimenting with easy recipes. Children can become part of the action when parents are doing certain tasks. Extra Seating- in many homes, extra seating is an important asset. Wherever there is additional seating, people will gather. Even if you have a small kitchen, you can add a few extra seats around a kitchen island. Versatile Movable Kitchen- kitchen islands don’t have to be fixed and it can be made movable. Most of the time, you need counter space, but at other times, you need more floor space. With a movable kitchen island you can have more room and you can do more activities with your family. If you have smaller kitchen, a movable kitchen island is an ideal addition. Accommodate Kitchen Amenities- for smaller kitchens, an island allows you to add a stove, sink and extra cooking area without taking up too much space. This will make your kitchen useful and more functional. A larger kitchen island can be connected with plumbing, electrical and gas systems, so your options can be limitless. Comments (5)I think breaking the run of Kitchen units below the window will not look good internally.... Consider an island (900mm height) with chairs facing the kitchen, approx. 1.2m wide, of which approx. 450mm/500mm dropped to a normal table height (700mm??) so you could use your existing chairs. Or else, remove the larder and locate your existing table there and a new, slimmer larder unit between the two windows....See MoreSian Peachey
