Water feature advice and how to jazz up this rockery

Hello lovely Houzzers

I am still trying to make this rockery area more pleasing to the eye. I have a very uphill garden and this is the view you see from the living room (also taken one from upstairs for perspective) and I just can't get it right!!!

I have bought some plants (although not the pots as not sure what type to get to make an impact and to go with the stone wall!)

I have temporarily plonked a plant in the centre but think I need a water feature. I haven't a plug point but can get one fitted but cannot dig up the patio so hope the cable can be tucked against the back of the stone wall although it will be a long stretch.

I have seen a polyresin water feature on a well known website which gets good reviews and I think it may go with the stone. It comes in granite or terracotta so was wondering whether to match or contrast.

Has anyone got a polyresin one and if so would you recommend it? I don't mind investing in a real stone one but it can't be taller than 85 cm which is the height of the rockery wall so my options are limited! Any advice would be so welcome and feel free to be as blunt as you like! Thank you

Hi,

I'd go for some brightly coloured pots maybe yellow & blue to add a bit of wow to the area, if you're not keen on those try copper/brass instead. The water feature would work well, alternatively you could get a garden sculpture - I think it would look awesome in your space.

Thanks very much Honeypoppet, I love the pics and the sculptures are a great idea. I am more drawn to the idea of the water feature for the sound of the trickling water as well as the interest aspect. I am not sure whether a polyresin one looks realistic though and whether the one I have seen online is the right colouring. I have gone round so many garden centres but the choice has been really limited!

If you want to glam up your bathroom you can do it with wallpaper or tiles like marble, onyx, precious stones etc. It really depends on your budget and also what you define as glam. Many people see glam as luxury but it doesn't have to be the same. I did a small cloakroom project which some people view as glam with this wallpaper. Glam is usually defined my reflective surfaces like polished tiles, glossy cabinets and crystal chandeliers. Is that what you want?

Hi Jenny. Why not keep it simple to go with the table so something like this but maybe a simple scandi fern print or something rather than just the frame.cox and cox have a number of vases that would suit plus faux stems or try oka, Neptune or Abigail ahern for the stems but would keep them simple. I'd try and marry the other objects in some way ie colour, style, material, shape etc. I also have a chair on my landing and I have to say it does get used! Hopefully you have another spare corner.

Thank you so much for your very kind comments and advice! Forzaitalia. I looked up the Fatsia Japonica and really, really like it, great it is evergreen as well. I love acers but the trouble is I worry it may look sparse in winter. I wish there was an evergreen acer! I do love geraniums and have lots at the front, just not sure they work here. As you say perhaps because they are dotted around and not in groups. Jen P thank you v much for the pics, I like the table and chairs image you have put up. I have a table and chairs and have put it on the rockery and taken a pic but am not sure it works. Maybe it is due to the white colour? Of course not sure what do in the winter with it either. I love the waterfall pics but think it could mean excavation and worried about the cost at this stage. Def something maybe for a few years time. Rachelmidlands thank you also for taking trouble to look up pics, I love the red colour of the plants contrasting with the green. I also love the pagoda. This is really inspiring. I wonder if I can try something like this. As for the water feature, I wonder what I can do with the wire as it would have to go round the width of the rockery and round to the electrical point. I also looked up ponds in containers and there are some lovely designs but again I am not sure what container would work, a wood planter, a fibreglass one... Maybe I could try two either side of the rockery? It would be great to put in a fountain to really add some interest but of course if the solar ones don't work in winter that is an issue. Hi Lisa, I agree with Sonia (above comment) I would not remove the work surface space as it gives you space either side of the cooker to prepare/serve up. I love the shelving you have picked out as it brings a new dimension/texture to the space. Looking at your dining chairs you are not afraid of colour so I would pick a colour/tile that makes you smile and lay in an interesting pattern formation (herringbone/basket weave) to bring some colour and texture to the space.
