Should I purchase set of oak metal cross back chairs to table

Just a quick one here I have a lovely cream metal kitchen table and chair's (indoor or outdoor use) I fell in love with it a few years ago to brighten my kitchen I so love the oval shape and perfect size for my family meals having tried round, square, oblong in all types of materials wood, glass, plastic This little table is perfect for my needs I dont worry about scratches, hot pans. Puppies chewing legs (we breed gundogs) now all grown hopefully not a issue now. As you can tell love the table I updated my solid oak kitchen recently and added lovely solid worktops in creamish shade and base units in kitchen to sage/greyish shade to give two tone look kitchen which I love my dilemma should I purchase a set of oak cross back bentwood chairs rather beautiful but very expensive would they lift the look or would I be better just buying a new table and chairs. As some people love this table and some have commented "oh you have a garden table in your kitchen" :( I dont take offence as I have had more tables than I care to remember but this one I just use as a desk, a great island preparing food and great for dumping bags of shopping on. Then tidy up with a lovely plant or flowers and looks fresh again. Should I treat this table to new set oak chairs or start again dont want to waste money again and get it wrong.

If it's just to seat two people - I'd suggest getting some more worktop - maybe 750 deep and a similar length to where your table starts, to the wall with radiator on in length - and fix it to the corner on a support batten with one (or two for a table feel) leg supporting the front corner. That way you have space to sit - but the people seated won't bump their heads in the cabinets above - and you can sit and prep food etc there too - two bentwood chairs would add to the look beautifully !

I do like the idea of this suggestion thank you One Plan certainly something new to consider without breaking the bank too much.

I think you are missing an opportunity here; this is the perfect excuse to buy lots and lots of books. I have have run out of shelf space and have to choose what to pass on before I can buy any more...tough choices. :-)

Hi, thank you all for your input. I'm just going with the white Eiffel ones for now as all the suggestions are frying my brain and I need to get the chair ASAP, lol. It will buy me some time while I renovate the other ones and I'm sure someone will always want to buy them off me afterwards

What might work in that case is to sand the wood sections back to the original to remove any varnish/ oil and apply a limed oak/ oak countertop sealant. I've used the Rubio monocoat 2c product which has worked excellently. Of course there is labour involved in the sanding and application but if you want to achieve your perfect look it is worth investing the time/ cost. If you follow this route you can then apply a maintenance oil a few years later to bring back the fresh look. In this case you would not have to re-sand the wood sections. It can look really good as long as the tone of wood is the same. For example if the table is a grey stain timber and the legs were a warm yellow tone it doesn't match so well, but is they are both in a grey tone it looks really beautiful. Here are some image examples

I do pull the table into the middle of kitchen when we eat so we dont have s problem with our heads on the wall units really.

I'm with the worktop idea too.
To be honest I couldn't sit at that table for long. It doesn't look very comfortable on those chairs.

Yes Daisy they are not comfortable and we tend to be lounge dwellers lol but I do like a table when I have guests or sunday lunch around a table so nice for get together. I work with lots of young dogs and puppies and my last german shepherd (sadly now passed) had a thing about testing my new tables and chairs just nibbling them around the edges so this was a bit of a solution with metal finish to that issue as we had him for 15years!! lol. But to be honest has worked out extremely well especially for hot things. I have considered

Having top recovered in solid surface as I like its shape and size and I do use it as a workstation too and bentwood chairs soooo love this style of iconic chair around a mismatched table and love natural woods thats why I kept the upper cabinets that are solid med.oak and beautifully made just replaced one or two facia panels on the wall units to tie in with my new base units in a matt sage/grey finish thats so easy to keep clean. Going to replace facia on plate rack on far wall next to link it in more sort of evolving this kitchen make over used a great replacement door company in Stoke.

If I do replace whole lot table and chairs will then make a charming little set for the garden so I cant complain about this buy as purchased half price

In late summer sale nice when things are useful. I do like the slightly industrial timber plank tables too with metal legs and rustic tops
