This featured on a houzz tour. The study is oriental topaz sisal by Crucial trading. This looks as if it's the same carpet in a different shade?

Hi, a rug sounds like a good option but just be aware that some rugs and deeper piles will be incompatible with a wheeled desk chair. Also make sure you are not in danger of the chair falling off the edge every time you move. You are absolutely right to be thinking seriously about your personal comfort, it is a really important and relevant consideration if you will be spending long periods of time in your study. I would have a go at persuading him to give the wood a try, referencing all the opinions on here! A rug really adds a sense of coherence to a seating area, as well as warming your feet up and helping with sound insulation. Even if you went with the carpet option I would probably still recommend a central rug for your room to lighten/brighten and tie your colour scheme together. If I had to choose a carpet I would probably go for a natural wool colour which would be really neutral, look good with all the other elements, but then also use area rugs to lighten/brighten, centralise the furniture elements and balance the colour schemes in each room. This natural wool carpet from Jacaranda Carpets has an interesting texture, and a mushroom tone which goes well with your wallpaper and also has tinge of blue grey like your living room walls :)

I can tell it's East facing, it's exactly like my big lounge which skews everything in terms of colour. In the morning, everything looks yellow, no matter what colour it is. After lunch things look grey, this is possibly when the carpet looks the most blue-ish. It's tricky because the walls and fireplace and furniture is all warm, the carpet is cool but seems to warm up in the last photos. You could add a rug that contains some plum colours and grey to tie it together, repeating some of the carpet colour in cushions etc can also help. But at the end of the day will you ever be happy with it if you feel it clashes?

Hi Siwan, there are loads of options out there for alternates to hardwood/carpet that you could consider. Vinyl, wood, rubber and cork the list goes on. If you like the idea of wood but need a better price have a look at companies such as Karndean for their options. Cork is becoming a firm favourite as well with its sustainability credentials and is warm underfoot. Good luck with your searching!

The Wall paint is from Little Greene and is called Rolling Fog.

The Fire place colour is from Little Greene and is called Rolling Fog Mid.

Please note, although we are happy to provide paint colours, the finished result may appear lighter or darker depending on natural lighting.

Please be mindful of this if you were to buy the specified colour.
