Box window

I wonder if you could you tell me if the box window was a complete unit ( if so who produced it) or were the elements put together onsite? We are just about to start a build with very similar windows. Thank you

The window was put together by the window subcontractor Vintage Windows based in South Wales. The window supplier was based in Devon - Sunset Windows as I recall. The windows are Composite type, Aluminium outer and Timber inner frame, from Denmark. This bay window was ordered as one unit. It was delivered as separate elements and put together on site. Please note how the side windows are opening and the front pane is fixed. This allowed the front pane to be very large and without transom or mullion divisions.

Thank you it's really kind of you to give me this info. Our window is very similar with the side opening. We are having difficulty working out how to finish the roof. It is spec'd as zinc but as we live on an island it's not so easy to get someone over for such a small job. Was the roof part of the window unit?

Ah we are doing something similar and have the same dilemma. After discussions with our architect and numerous image searches I've come to the conclusion that you can either have the frameless look as per your pic (but it will be fixed shut) or an opening window, but then more of the window seat structure needs to be solid, otherwise you end up with too many frames and it starts looking like a greenhouse. As regards the opening window, a pivot window doesn't work as too much gets in the way of the seat. We don't want bifold or sliding due to the line. We are going for a framed window looking out to the garden which hinges down one side - the frame won't be super thin but I will live with that. Fixed glass on one side of the seat. Solid down the other side (where the hinge is) and solid roof.

Curtain length for box bay window

Just to clarify, I’d definitely go for full length in a traditional bay. However this type of bay has right angles (the “box” and the return) which are really difficult for opening and closing the curtains. Also the furniture and the deep cill make it even more awkward. That’s why in this case I’d do working blinds (close to the windows and down to the cill) with the lovely full length curtains just to dress it.

Revamp exterior of bungalow

I would be very grateful for ideas on updating the exterior of my bungalow. We have an gable end extension on the rear of the property with black window frames and a slightly different shade of brick as original brick not available. I painted the wood fascias black. At the front of property I’m undecided whether to continue with black windows or go for a slightly beige colour. Sometimes I feel the whole place needs brightening up! The box window will be removed and replaced with a full length window or door (bedroom)the Tudor style apex above could be removed. On the main peak the Tudor style needs to go. Should I keep fascias black. Roof tile is brown. Current windows are rosewood. Front door solid wood. Such a big decision for me. Guidance desperately needed. Many thanks

Curtain pole for box bay window?

I also think a straight pole would look fine. However if you are interested in a bespoke pole for the bay, I can recommend this company in Wales - I found them years ago through various recommendations on forums and have purchased from them. Click on the bay window section and then choose the shape of bay - it then gives you an online form to enter various measurements. From memory, they were very, very reasonable - cost more than ikea but way cheaper than John Lewis! I’m pretty sure they do ceiling brackets too. https://mob.curtainpoles.co.uk/index.html

Yes the top or ‘roof’ to the bay was made by the window installer, in powder coated aluminium, to keep it all in one material by one sub-contractor. Note the roof and base to the bay are both heavily insulated. The glazing is triple rather than double so very good thermally.
