I really like this staircase.

I am wondering if the stairs allow for a smaller opening at the top floor ?
I was also wondering if the dressing table is bespoke or bought from a shop ?

Hi there,

The staircase and dressing table were bespoke for this project. The staircase is the same width the whole way up.

Hoovering? Is that vacuuming? :) I actually love to vacuum! Such a pleasant result! Ironing, dusting and grout are least favorites. I don't buy things that will need ironing, so that's not on the list of must-do's. Dusting is otherhalf's contribution (thank God!). Grout...I try and get by with spray on bleach cleaner.

Hi Marinela, There are lots of ways of doing this but the obvious issue is that it has to safe for the boys. I have enclosed a few ideas, hope this helps. None of these could be classed as the perfect solution but you can take ideas from each and miix & match. You need to consider the stair construction, the examples shown are in timber but a carpet would be softer and safer for the kids. If you do go for wood I would add some raised metal strips onto the tread to add grip. Here are a few balustrade ideas: I had to add this one in, its fun !!! The colours could be added with a rubber flooring material, lots of grip and will soften the edges. As the kids get older you can carpet over for a more contemporary look. further to my post yesterday, my husband has given serious thought to what Jonathan said about the length of the garage. He has decided he doesn't want the car to just fit in, he wants the car to fit in and allow him to work on it. Jonathan also suggested putting downstairs loo, where our stairs are now. We are now thinking to move the garage wall to make the garage slightly narrower and to start the staircase from near the front door going straight up. Does anybody have any idea what a good width of a hallway and staircase would be, ie not narrow and squashed but not any bigger than it needs to be? Any ideas welcome, we will be using an architect but the more idea we have about what we want and what will work the better.

I recently sanded back my staircase to wood and painted it white with valspar Blue fedora on the hand rail. Lots of work but I wanted to get rid of the gloss that yellow way too quickly. I think a two toned approach would look stunning. I found a couple of pics on Pinterest that has similar spindles to yours. zinsser BIN shellac base primer is the way to go as Jonathan suggests as it also has a stain blocker to prevent bleed through of your current stain. I would also recommend sanding between coats of the primer and occasionally spraying your brush with water as the primer can be a bit flddly wo work with as it dries really fast
