An alternative to traditional wallpaper, in this room we used a gorgeous metallic porcelain tile to contrast against the dark wall panelling.

Could this be the new statement wall trend? Yes or no!

There are definitely good decorators and bad ones - I certainly agree with Jenny Boyd and A.S.! Some professionals are most certainly better than others and just because they do this for a living doesn't necessarily mean you're guaranteed a quality result every time. I've had superb results from good decorators, and shocking outcomes from others. I had some so-called professional decorators do the rest of my house and the finish was even worse than my kitchen efforts - paint splashes on hardware and glazing, poor coverage, dust dried into the workwork etcetc. Just shocking! So I should have qualified my statement with get a professional to do it if you can verify that they really know what they're doing and that their standards will match your expectations!

As a tile importer and retailer, it's very rare for a porcelain tile to crack if installed properly. I'd not recommend juggling your Le Creuset to test the theory though... More and more tilers are using a decoupling matting such as Durabase to take as much movement out of the tile as possible. We also supply flexible adhesive and grout, so with a properly flat floor, it's rare for us to get a call from a grumpy client. We supply a lot of large format "infinity" look tiles, where you have an identically sized anti-slip External version of the Interior tile. Most are 8-9mm, so need a concrete base that mirrors the internal floor. If there is a 20mm version, then a sand & cement base can be used. As for kitchens, always tile the entire floor before the kitchen goes in. This means that the kitchen installer has a blank canvas to work on. It also means that the floor is completely sealed, so the chances of liquid ingress under the tiles (under the units) is pretty much nil. Finally, it also means that if you have any white goods that fail under the work surface, they can just be slid out, rather than having to remove what could be long an heavy lump of marble or granite to get them out. Many thanks for your comments but not not quite. I am new to stone effect porcelain so I am not describing it well. I found yesterday that it is known to bookmatch marble slabs to create an amazing marble mural and that there is a porcelain marble effect equivalent for example https://www.porcelain-tiles.co.uk/range/bookmatched/. It looks amazing but there is still a replicating pattern because it is "bookmatching". I am wondering if an artist / manufacturer has taken this a step further and created a large mural image requiring a large number of tiles to replicate a whole slice through a mountain of marble ... so the marble mural would be continuous not broken by the tiles and 100 tiles would be unique. And my question initially was about stone rather than marble so that the uniqueness is subtle .. but marble would be nice too.
