Protecting my new off road parking space ... ideas please
Comments (8)Yes, I'd thought about a sign, the new space will be like a mini lay by, sort of scooped out of the Devon bank that the garage is built into. We're also on a hill, and just before a bend, tho the lane does open up a bit both above and below our cottage. It really isn't "normal" light traffic that's the concern. It's more the impact some heavy farm machinery might have if it tried to squeeze past oncoming traffic. I don't think that planters or pots would work very well, they'd have to be very visible at night .. no lighting hereabouts ... and my neighbour's terracotta planters opposite haven't fared well! Thanks for all the suggestions, much appreciated!...See MoreThis is my kitchen wall need some design ideas
Comments (7)Not sure if you're wanting to keep it white but if so some ideas for inspiration. It's hard to suggest artwork for someone else but a gallery wall might be nice or trying oversize wall clocks, chalk boards etc....See MoreOutside space .
Comments (3)Hi Shirley When you ask for some type of roof do you mean a garden canopy of some kind or are you thinking about a built extension with a roof? If you mean a garden canopy there are several options. Being south facing you will get the sun, so how about a removable sail canopy which can attach to the walls with brackets and eyes and be taken down for the winter. They come in many colours and can be tied in to your overall garden scheme and can be square or triangular - you could even have two in different colours and overlap them. You could also consider adding a wooden pergola which can be fixed to the slabs with post plates (rather than taking out slabs) and then you could grow many climbers up and over such as roses, jasmine, and wisteria. If you keep on top of the pruning of these plants you can still allow light to the table and chairs. If you want something more permanent there are 'free-standing' canopies that fix to a wall and come in either glass or Perspex - these will let light in, keep the rain out and can be finished to tie in with the white walls and windows. There are also pull-out canopies which can be operated manually or with a remote and come in a multitude of different fabrics, colours and styles. Of course, the simplest is an umbrella - either one that slots in to a table or one that can sit in a corner with an overhanging arm. I hope one of these ideas is of interest. Comments (14)Thanks all for your valuable suggestions. As per your advice, we are now thinking to look for a shoe storage for our narrow entryway. But also thinking to put a bench in that area with storage, won’t use for shoes, but don’t know for what.. so confused. Is the bench a good idea at all? It’s just a big space outside so looking for something to use this space and together increase look of our home....See Morerachelmidlands
