Will a kitchen Island fit in my apartment?
Hi all,
I have a new apartment, and wanted your advise if it makes sense to fit a kitchen island in there, or just a one wall kitchen.
Note the following:
- The island will not be functional one (no sink or stove), only for extra cupboards or sitting.
- I also have a dining table that is about 200cm x 80cm
My fear is that the space would feel too packed and small...

Comments (24)Thank you Man About The House Do you feel it is better to have the kitchen at the back of the property? (by the way there is double doors on the back wall towards the left which I would want to keep as it is opening onto a nice terrace. I was thinking if we integrate the garage might as well do it all, put a window instead of the garage door but I think I could keep then the utility room where it is now. Regarding drainage I am not worried, there is already the laundry area to the right of the property and it is a property completely detached with at least 5 meters to the right end boundaries so we should be able to dig. I am also not worried about losing the integrated garage as it has a drive and we could even build a double garage separated from the house in the next few years if we feel the need. 6 years agoHi, I think it depends how you plan to arrange the rest of the space. I've shown a quick layout for an L shape kitchen with small island which would be very functional but would mean putting the dining table elsewhere in the apartment. Island dimensions based on this one:

6 years agoWell it would fit but I'm not sure it would feel spacious. Also I assume you'd want more than one sofa for the living room space?

6 years agoHmm, given that you can't change the kitchen around at this point I don't think having both the island and dining table will look very good in the same space. You either need a smaller island or a smaller table really. Personally I would opt for a smaller table as kitchen counter space is invaluable.

If i'm understanding you correctly I think it would be a mistake to have the L sofa in front of the window. It would be better to have it the opposite way around but realistically you're going to struggle to find a good position for the dining table at that point.
