You can have fire rated doors and fire rated pocket doors systems. Just contact the manufacturer.

Hi there, I personally really love the look of sliding barn doors but they fit in best with certain interior styles (such as rustic), so if you feel it might be out of place in yours maybe it's best not to mix and match. With barn sliding the mechanism upon which the door opens/closes is visible as a bar above it? I've also seen this to be the case in some track bi-passing doors. To illustrate what I mean: Whereas with pocket doors, the mechanism is all hidden as it's entirely integrated into the wall. Overall I think pocket doors tend to be more discreet/less statement making. So I think it all depends on what kind of look you're going for and what will fit in with your interior best!

Jen P makes the point which is part of what I think some of us are concerned about which is too many doors in a normal sized room make it hard to have necessary furniture like sofas which is the function of a living space. The hall door is near the kitchen opening and if there was a part glazed partition where the double doors are it would still “connected” I think whilst still allowing furniture in the room. If you are set on access from kitchen though another idea could be to have two openings either side of a solid wall, that way I think there are more options for furniture placement?? If doors are necessary sliding doors moving across the the middle section wouldn’t get in the way. And if you block the hall door maybe recess a bookcase for interest in the hall??

sheesh I thought with a rectangular shaped kitchen things would be simple! This is definitely a learning process! I think if if we Switched to the 600 mm cabinet instead of the 900 corner unit we’d have to have a 50 mm ’filler’ unit or something to allow the over door to open enough....hopefully I can get him to just hold off on putting more things in until it arrives so we could see how it works....I have such limited time outside of work and don’t have a job I can just swing an hour off from to go to showrooms and thints, so I just ordered the range cooker online after reading reviews. They all seem to come in either 90, 100 or 110 cm, so I just went with the smallest ‘standard’ one. when we first reserved the house I asked if I could modify the kitchen a bit, specifically put a range cooker in. He said no problem (it’s a small local developer, not one of the big companies) and that I could work out all the plans with their kitchen planner....I spent about 2 hours with her and went through a lot more emailing her back and forth to get it right...some good that’s done! im thinking the range cooker along the wall won’t work either unless I lose the peninsula thing altogether because there’s not enough room- which would sacrifice a load of counterspace....unfortunately we need the door to the living room otherwise there’s no way between the kitchen and living room without going outside! The ground floor layout is below although the kitchen plans have since been updated...

Thanks Jonathan. yes, i expect the developer to be reluctant. But I plan to present it to them as a win. There are a number of ways they will benefit from it. Hopefully, from their perspective not building these walls is less work. There are a few things included in price I won’t want: - 4 radiators (Id have underfloor Heating downstairs) - tiling in the kitchen (I’d make all wooden floor) - Fridge - I’d like an American style fridge which they don’t seem to offer. I’d be willing to give up the fridge if they go my way My alternative would be to ask them to have all of it uninstalled and sell it to fund the work I need to do myself/hire someone. The only cupboards I would lose are the corner ones. But Id gain some storage space in the kitchen island (i was looking at multifunctional ones). And we would leave the first bit of a wall on the left to put some shelving if needed. I’m not thinking of loft conversion but if I had money for that, I would find it for sprinkles/mist system that would solve the problem.
