how can I get light into my dining room?
Comments (3)Hi there! Do you have any pictures or plans of the room to give us an idea of what you're working with? Adding the windows is going to be one of the best things you can do but there are a few interior design tricks to try. If you paint or paper the walls in a warm shade of white you'll bounce the light around and keep things bright and cheerful. You could also hang a large mirror on the wall opposite the existing window to increase the sense of light coming into the room....See MoreHow to Decorate Living Room / Dining Room?
Comments (3)Hi Minnie, thanks for your reply. The paint brand is Johnstone's. My wife also thought Brilliant white might be too cold so we are now considering something with a little bit more warmth, possibly a more 'creamy' colour. The living room faces West, the dining room East - the living room gets the sun in the evening. The paneling would be going around the inside edge of the arch, basically an architrave that wraps the sides and the under edge. I have had it suggested to me that we paint the two window walls and the archway in blue as that will link the rooms together whilst ensuring that the colour is visible regardless of which room you are in or where you are sat? The boards will stay exposed though we are sanding them are treating with a light oak coloured varnish. Furniture wise, the sofa is an beige/mocha fleck colour, dining table is 'shabby chic' wooden top with white legs, Coffee table is wood topped with white legs....See MoreHow to hang pendant lights in a corner
Comments (5)Of course, one would always agree with Minnie. Only other option for a ceiling fixed pendant would be to get an electrician in to feed a cable to the corner. It may be possible to do this easily from above and not mean damaging your ceiling, depending on your flooring. Alternatively you could get a large, arced lamp to hold a large shade, but that’s not really the same look....See MoreHow to light a dining room
Comments (3)I personally wouldn’t installs spots, prefer to keep them in a kitchen or bathroom. I have a pendant, 2 table lamps and a floor lamp in my dining room. I don’t need any task lighting in there but I guess it’s what you use the room for whether it’s purely dining? I think wall lights will be great with a table lamp or two (assuming that doesn’t cause too much work to the walls). I’d also put a dimmer switch on the pendant if possible...See MoreDebbie
