Comments (5)There are arguments either way. Flooring should always be fitted beneath floor standing appliances (whether freestanding or integrated) for ease of installation and removal (and in the case of freestanding appliances, to ensure there are no areas that are visible without any flooring). By having the floor fitted first ensures a level surface, and as mentioned above items such as end panels will be fitted directly on the floor. The kitchen fitter is obviously taking responsibility for not scratching the new floor during installation, and particularly when moving appliances such as the fridge and range cooker. When fitting timber flooring, it is necessary to leave an expansion gap around the perimeter. By plonking heavy kitchen furniture on top largely prevents the natural expansion/shrinkage of the timber, and therefore there is a risk that the flooring may bow or pull apart. One solution is for the kitchen fitter to cut out around the plinth legs, but this does mean if you ever change the layout, but wish to keep the flooring, you will left with a floor resembling Edam cheese!...See MoreWhat color paint should I use in the kitchen?
Comments (12)Hi Tacey, The clean white form of the kitchen looks lovely, its a nice room. You definitely need lights above the wall units, this will bounce off the ceiling and into the room. At the risk of being too direct, throw the green paint away, you don't need it.. If you want colour in this room use the glass display cabinet and put some beautiful coloured glass in there. I sometimes put Japanese inspired flower arrangements on the middle of islands to add a modern structure and punch some colour in. The advantage to both of these methods is that you can change the colour scheme when ever you like. One idea that would transform the room: Put an American shutter up on the window. White with wide 80mm slats. Make sure the slat control is concealed, don't let them sell you a shutter with that awful rod down the middle. This will look amazing in this room. If you really fancy being adventurous mirror the window wall around the shutters above the splash back. You will need to make templates and have the mirror cut to those to ensure a perfect fit. Visually the room will double in size as your eye is tricked into seeing the furniture repeated as a reflection. I know it sounds a little "out there" but I have done this on many occasions and it works amazingly well. Comments (5)Something more interesting! There are such a huge array of tiles available that you can have something lovely. As the units and worktop are dark I would go with a light palette. Hexagonal tiles are lovely. If you wanted subway tiles you could lay then in a more interesting way such as herringbone (better with slim subways) or upright, like below...See MoreCrystal Amesbury Creative
