New living dining kitchen - Layout and furniture advice
I am not sure if the layout that we should go for ?
1. We have a 18 month old so we want enough space in the room for her to move around .
2. I want to get in. 4-6 seater dining rectangular table next to the kitchen with bench on one side and may be 2-4 dining chairs .
3. Not to keen on centre coffee table as that will crowd up the space but more keen on side table / ottoman style tables that can be used as additional seating or side table.
4. We have a sofa from old house that we want to keep for next 2-3 years till our daughter grows up. It’s a grey colour 3 seater sofa with single row of red buttons .
Please advise on the below:
1. What jshould be the layout of the room.
2. What kind of dining table should we go for ?
3. Advice for TV placement and what kind of unit ?

Comments (2)Personally, I think corner sofas really restrict positioning and getting 2 gives you a lot more flexibility. Re the radiators, I would try and avoid putting any behind the sofa on the right hand side as the sofa will soak up lots of the heat. Instead I would suggest going for a vertical model instead and putting it to the side of the French doors. Comments (3)Hello Karen, WOW what a fantastic project and this open plan space looks incredible. I feel the positioning of the living area and dining area works well and makes complete sense from what you have said about the views etc. My concern is the kitchen as I feel the current position/layout is a bit of an obstruction and to me the space does not flow efficiently and effectively. I would switch the island around so it sits the opposite way and then you could potentially have your hob on the island which will sit in front of the tall units where your ovens and fridge will be. This way the kitchen layout will work a lot better. I have attached a quick sketch below so you can see what I mean. Also this way it will give you more room around your dining table meaning the whole space will flow a lot better. 6 years agoIf you want to sit 6 people around the table it will have to be 160cm long.
I have shown your sofa and assumed it is 220cm long as most
Personally I think you need smaller furniture in this room.

6 years agoThis is what I meant by keeping the current layout. Keep TV next to socket, attach it to the wall and build a wall of storage around it. Have your big sofa and a couple of pouffes (that can be moved around easily and great fun for toddlers to climb on!) on a large rug to zone the living space. Have a built in bench on the back wall with a (extendable?) table in front. I'd then keep some foldaway chairs in the cupboard for when you have guests, but no need to clutter up the space with them normally imo. Nothing to scale obviously!

6 years agoI'd keep the sofa where Jonathan has got it. Have the tv wall mounted by the sockets on a swing arm bracket with a low,slim sideboard underneath (for storage). Some of the mid century modern ones are low so may be worth a look. Opposite the sofa I'd have a console with upholstered stools/cubes underneath and a chair next to it angled towards the sofa. Hang the largest mirror you can over the console to make the room feel wider. I'd also go for a built in banquette seat with storage underneath for toys etc. I don't think you can fit a 5ft table, certainly not with a high chair unless you have one that clips on so would go for a 4ft one (we often have 6 for breakfast around ours, cosy but fine!). A pedestal table would be good hence the tulip one as Jen also pictured! I'd go for 3 dining chairs. Keep one by the console with a throw, cushion etc and push the table up to include it at the end for guests when needed. Use a rug to zone the living space so the front legs of the sofa and chair sit on it. You should also have room for a small side table next to the sofa (I make the room a bit longer than Jonathan unless I've misunderstood the dimensions?) Try cutting out paper templates of everything to size and walking round the room before you buy to get a feel of how the space will work
