Dark spare bedroom - help!
Comments (17)Add reflective accents, not just mirrors, but warm metallics such as copper and bronze in accessories and textiles to reflect the lighting and add warm glints to the moody blues. I would use a warm light neutral (a cream, mushroom or taupe) to balance out the blue rather than stark white or light grey. This would make the room feel cosy rather than gloomy. But remember that you will need lights on constantly in the room if you go dark. Maybe set up a wiring circuit so that all your lamps go on with one switch? Or use down lighters concealed behind pelmets or a false ceiling to wash light down the walls? And make sure that you have good task lighting in wardrobes and near vanity units, or makeup and dressing will be tricky!...See MoreDark dark bedroom walls what colour carpet
Comments (5)Dear Claire, I'd choose wooden floors any day over carpeted floors as they're much more durable and give an airier feel, however if you end up agreeing with your husband on having the room carpeted I'd recommend a warm grey carpet like my design shows below: When it comes to a wooden floor a whitewashed look might look modern but could provide too harsh a contrast, instead I'd opt for a mid-tone warm grey or pale brown. Hope this helps! Irene...See MoreBedroom with dark blue wardrobe
Comments (4)Love Jen's idea of the Industrial feel - How about a warm brick effect wallpaper behind the bed?? Clips lamps for the bedside wall too - Ikea have a good range and of course, if you don't already have the cables chased in to the wall, you won't need to with that type. You may be struggling with the curtains as i'm not sure you've got room for the pole to stick out where it meets the wardrobe, maybe perfect fit blinds would be better. You could go for a warm brown to warm the room up, coupled with a chocolate brown Sheepskin rug as suggested by Jen also, it would start to look cosier....See MoreDecorating a dark bedroom in dark colour?
Comments (26)I would build things up in increments as every time you add something it changes the overall look. Get the walls sorted and have in mind the flooring, then when all that is working think about the blinds. Looking at the images above they are quite small rooms and as they have lots of texture going on the colour is dark and desaturated. I wouldn't go too bright if you want texture, keep the palette limited....See MoreJo Arnold
