Help making our dark narrow hallway more "finished"
Comments (8)Hi There, Lighting is so important so it would be a great idea to consider using table lamps in different corners if you have available plug sockets. Mirrored or glass lighting as pendant shades would also give off more light and reflection to brighten up your hallway. I would also consider your colour palette. As Tom suggested a bright White or light colour and painting the woodwork would lift the whole space. You could also add some metallic, silver, gold and glass accessories to brighten up the hallway. Comments (16)Thank you all for your constructive feedback so far - I appreciate it all and it has given me some food for thought. I particularly like @OnePlans suggestion of an open cloakroom/bench, but I do also agree with @Jen P that in practice it is likely to become messy. The response I am clinging on to most is @Jonathan ... "To be fair this hallway is 300mm wider than the hall in many houses". If this is the case then hopefully our dimensions are ok?? If the dimensions are reasonable, I would prefer not to reconfigure the rooms/walls, however your responses have made me think about maybe moving the bottom of the stairs back a bit from the front door and making the full length window beside the front door wider, which will hopefully let more light into the hall and at least make it feel more spacious. Here's what I have in mind... or alternatively try cantilever stairs which will let light into the deeper reaches of the hall... I welcome your thoughts....See MoreHelp with hall/stairs/landing
Comments (4)I'd go for option B. I think you need some hint of another colour, but I can understand your dislike of coloured walls and wallpaper (you're not alone in the wallpaper loathing!) Other than a greig colour, have you though of something a bit like F&B Dimity? which will give you the contrast between your white woodwork and the walls, whilst still keeping it pale and neutral, but adding a bit of warmth to counter of the lack of natural light. I think it will also compliment your new travertine...See MoreCan you help with colour scheme for hallway and landing
Comments (1)The entrance to your house provides the opportunity to be bold with colour. This space sets the expectations for the rest of the home on entry. You could consider whether you would like a fresh bright feel created by cool light tones or a comforting warm hug utilising warm tones and warm light. This could link with other rooms to become part of the whole property and larger space or contrast the other rooms to create a moment of build up before entering the other spaces. Glamour can mean different things to different people - quality materials, lighting atmosphere, a statement wow factor or reserved sophistication. Hope that helps, Ellen...See MoreCreate Perfect
