Heating for Kitchen/dining room to back sit room

Kitchen and dining room are not entirely open but lead on to open plan seating area with French Windows and window in between.
We are renewing kitchen and floor.
Problem is gets cold at back any ideas reasonable budget please?
I know underfloor exists no idea of cost and presently we have laminate flooring on top of ceramic tiles which would not want to move tiles.

Just a cheap but effective solution. We also have a kitchen / diner in an L-shape with a small lounge area attached.................all open plan.

We have one large radiator that was heating it.

Firstly, I notice that you have no curtains on the window in the middle. All the curtains ( including the window ) should be thermal backed and as thick as you can get to stop the heat going out of the glass.

Secondly, the little radiator in the middle of the double doors doesn't look like it is large enough to have an adequate heat output for the size of the room, so I would change that. There are charts on line to work out the size you need, or if you enquire at any decent plumbing merchants, they'll work it out for you.

Adding a good depth window sill to under the window will help prevent heat loss up and out of the window too.

We bought a ceramic radiator to plug in, in the conservatory as a back up to our larger radiator and it works a treat! Really slimline too. However, the biggest saving on the heat loss is our curtains, which are really, really thick, make sure they cover the sill.

Thanks we have a blind and just 3 small radiators 2 either side of window and 1 at end kitchen . Will look into ceramic and poss layout change.

Marble would still work well in all those areas - luxurious and dramatic! A couple of points to take care with: - Take care if you're option for high gloss, as they can be slippery when wet - If you're opting for a very "white" marble (Carrara or some such), be prepared for it to show every dirty mark and need regular cleaning. If your lifestye can cope with this great - if you have three labrodors and live in a pair of Hunter wellies, I'd urge caution....

Do you have a floor plan with the orangery dimensions if you're not sure a table will fit? Does the kitchen fit a breakfast table? We've got a similar set up in terms of where the dining room and kitchen are located and the dining room is used for entertaining and family meals are in the kitchen. Do you have another use for the room such as playroom, study etc?

With the front of the flat assigned to bedroom and study space it's the three rooms at the back where you could make the most change to enhance the living space. You only ever asked about furniture placement in the lounge but given that you've bought the flat are you open to making some bigger changes to maximise the space? For example, is the wall between the smallest bedroom and the lounge supporting?I'm assuming that's your study but if your partner is at home and working at the front of the house, knocking these two rooms together would give you a much more versatile space with an office area for you, with doors open onto the garden on a nice day. (Replacing with a stud wall if moving on is not a major job). Another idea might be to keep that wall up and see if the kitchen could be opened up to make an open plan kitchen/living/ dining space. The dining table could then be located near to the kitchen area. With either of these options you are losing one of those four doors which are making furniture placement awkward. Another idea (I'm full of them!!) Do you need the storage cupboard in this room? This could be blocked up so access is obtained via the largest bedroom to make a bigger wardrobe/cupboard space in there. If you'e got enough wardrobe space in there that could also be an office area with double doors to be closed off out of sight when not in use. Doing this (and moving the radiator, perhaps for a streamlined vertical one elsewhere in the room) would give you more opportunities for furniture placement. Please feel to tell me none off these are possible or appealing. I watch with interest when someone asks for an opinion on a cushion only to be given advice for the room that will see them spending £5,000!! (I do it myself to avoid getting off the couch and do something with my own house!! Plus, I'm great at spending other people's money) Best of luck and keep the photos coming as you make changes because you have grest potential with this flat and there is some fab advice on here .

I think a soft sage green would take the room away from the brown look. The sofas would go well with it and you just need some green and maybe pink cushions to lift it. Re-upholstering sofas is as expensive as buying new so I wouldn’t do that unless the sofas are very good quality. Some lovely big artwork would help lift it too. Painting kitchen units is quite hard work unless you get a decorator to do it for you?
