Hi. You know, I'm totally with Pat Oliver on this - cant imagine why someone would have put three light fittings up in the first place!!! I, too, would go for just the one in the centre and remove the end light fitments. Don't know your budget or taste but I've fallen in love with ANTHROPOLOGIE'S totally OTT brightly coloured chandeliers which happen to be on sale now. I covet them but can't afford them. Why not combine your budget for two and buy something spectacular. You're only going to do it once!!! Wayfair is good for ideas and, believe it or not, if you have a COSTCO card they sell quite magnificent ones too. If budget is huge look perhaps at Thomas Goode. Happy shopping! Firstly, don't worry, we thought we would be rubbish painting but we ended up doing it quite well!! Also the dark colour but is actually easy in your case, you have the Shelves covering all the corners and joints you won't show any tiny mistakes, just get a few rolls of duck tapes :). Have a go yourself, decorating can be therapeutic. You can always call in the pro if you feel you really can't cope anymore. I think there are two or three general themes to consider then, you can either have the fireplace, shelves and skirting etc al in white, or all in a darker wood colour (mahogany I'd say) or have a mix of white and oak colour. I'm so jealous you have enough floor height to have skirting and the top but painted in a different colour so if it were me I would defo keep as a feature. Shutters will be perfect indeed so I wouldn't do anything for the window while you save up for good quality ones, just watch out for companies like Thomas Sanderson or Hilarys doing 3 for 2 or massive reductions. Obviously, have the shutters in the same colour as the other woodwork. Personally I'm not keen to paint the radiator in the same colour as the wall, I know a lot of people do but for me, it's not like I want or need to camouflage it so people can't see it! I have the same question for the one in my sitting room to be honest, but I have a smaller one so was thinking to get a cabinet to cover it, in the colour we want. Maybe you can put a long shallow shelf above the radiator painted in the same as those in the alcoves?

Hi Claire. I had a quick look yesterday and one company quoted starting prices from £34sqm and another £45, however I'm guessing that may rise if just doing a small area rather than a room due to the actual process. I was actually due to get a quote last week but cancelled as it looked ridiculous with my room to ceiling proportions which is unfortunate as it could have given you an idea! I do think you could pull the tiles off but it might be tricky. I think texture works really well in an industrial scheme so maybe another option is wallpaper? These are all Osborne and little papers, names were something like metropolis, crocodilo, zingrina and mako in no particular order! The last pic is actually showing the black wall which looks like leather rather than the polished plaster

I'd paint it white first and then test the colour out on the wall. Red is really difficult to get rid of. I've also been thinking about what you said, that you didn't want to walk into the room and be faced with the closed corner of a corner sofa. So I've tried to give you a visual again.
