Advice needed Rug size & design
Comments (13)Hi! I'm wondering whether you really need a rug? Your parquet is of a beautiful colour and there quite many different colours in the living room ; grey sofa, brown chair (lovely one) and fuchsia curtains. Plus the cushions. I think that perhaps changing the curtains colour will make it more easy to find a rug but if you want to keep the curtains and have a rug I would suggest to match it with the parquet colour to keep the balance. Grey rugs can be beautiful but then you have a dark brown chair which might not look too good together despite having a grey sofa. As for the size, the current one is definitely too small. Another option is to put a bright fur small rug, it won't cover the whole room but will add a cosy touch without being too heavy a detail and keep in balance the rest of the room, meaning it won't upset the grey sofa or the brown chair:). In addition, bright fur rugs look great on dark floors....See MoreLounge design ideas for gold stripe sofas
Comments (22)Thank you for all your really helpful comments so far. My eyes are being opened to different thoughts and design ideas. I have loaded a few more photos from the day as it shows the light. The patio end is south facing bit we have a conservatory and some trees behind which reduces the light on the room. as you can see I do have lots of ornaments which I would want to keep and whilst I might have the odd piece to reflect the colour of the room I do t think this room is one to do from scratch and therefore a design idea needs to be around my bits. I have previously changed the botanical flower print as it was once another colour. As the room is long and thin it is quite hard to find an alternative layout which allows us to view the tv as well as entertain and see each other. Carolins I am loving all your ideas and today am going to visit a fabric design shop to see if I can get ideas there. I spend hours going through shop websites looking for cushions/ curtains / lamps as ideally I wouLd like ideas/links to products if possible. I am thinking of painting the wall a more neutral colour? Maybe something like Dimity from farrow and Ball, but from a cheaper supplier? please keep the ideas coming I am so grateful for all your help thank you so much! Also new to this site so not yet worked out how to comment on your post individually sorry...See MoreLiving Room - flooring clashes
Comments (27)I agree with adding black. I like you prefer the more monochrome look and am not keen on the browns, oranges etc. It’s a matter of personal taste but you could start with some black cushions. You could also have a black rug but I’m not sure if the size you’ve marked is a bit too small and would actually make it look more cluttered. I think you need to have all the furniture sitting on it really. I really like Sonias pictures....See MoreRug ideas - contrasting colour sofas
Comments (21)Thanks everyone for your ideas. That's great and really useful. Like the rug ishanson. It's looking like either a neutral (but contrasting against beige carpet) or a colour based rug would work equally well, depending on personal preference. We have double doors from the living room into our dining room which has black & white check curtains - photo shows the view through. I'm wondering whether a black and white/ivory rug would connect the rooms together from a design point of view? Saying that I think a rug that pulls the colours together would look good too....See Moreoakbeechash
