This is truly inspiring. Please can you tell me the dimensions of the kitchen island

The table portion of the island is 7' long x 5' wide. The overall size including the limestone countertops is 11' x 7'.

It really depends on how you like to use the space. Are you a big foodie - always in the kitchen experimenting with a new dish? Do you love to entertain with lots of people round for dinner parties? Or does the large dining table only really get used a couple of times a year? Do you eat at a diner table daily or do you tend to watch tv while you eat? Or are you really into films and chill out sessions? It just depends on priorities and lifestyle. Do you expect there to be children in the space or will it just be you for the foreseeable future? Etc etc, the more information the better interior design can help to make the space fit your life. I’m not an expert in this, I work as a luxury goods designer rather than interiors. There’s lots of brilliant professionals on here that can help though.

Hi At No 19, Thanks for your advice and nice kitchen. Appreciate this isn’t an exact science and so it’s good to share thoughts with someone who’s done it before. I am leaning towards increasing the shadow gap to 100mm, and will consider additional lighting, as the extractor has lighting incorporated I initially didn’t think it would be required. Can I ask, on your project was the lowered ceiling the same dimension as the island or did you make it a touch larger / smaller?

Hi. Yes, our first fix electrics are already in. Although, in theory, we should have been able to leave exact positioning until after the units were fitted (mid May), our ceiling is quite complicated: We have a hidden steel running down the centre of the room. So they have made special fixings in the ceiling, so that the pendants can still be fixed in the (hopefully!) best positions... We have one in the centre, then one equidistant between the centre and each end of the island. I think that should be ok. So they are about 750mm centres I think. They are slightly off centre, width ways, away from the hob side. Yes, too many big decisions. Not sure that I have made all of them right, but we are getting there. Current hold up are the bifolds, windows and doors. They are plaster boarding and plastering everything except for the reveals, but can’t finish or start the flooring until the windows are in. It’s giving me a bit longer to either about wall and kitchen cabinet colours 😱

Just wondering if you have lived with open plan before? I think it a bit extreme to go from 3 rooms to 1 big open space. To me it makes sense to have one open kitchen/dining space. I'd always have a separate proper living room though....
