Help layout & plans of my open plan kitchen diner & side extension
Comments (13)Thanks for these. Im not sure if we can do the extra corner bit for number five, but I do like the layout, it will depend on cost, also don't need two tv areas, as we have a front lounge in the house anyway. the office was supposed to be a mixed use room, as a playroom with kids storage and also an occasional bedroom, so sofa bed In there. I know many people have hobs and sinks on islands, but I just think i'll end up dumping things on there.. I have four in the family, two adults, two kids, but we have a lot of people round for entertaining and parties, so space is what I'm after, but was also looking for somewhere the kids can go out of the way from adults if need be. As for kitchen, the reason for having large larder is to put not only food/drink spare fridge in there, but also things we don't use all that often in the kitchen, equipment etc.. I like everything clean and hidden away. The office on number 5 would be separate anyway as this concept includes sliding doors, which fold into the wall, so only entrance would be from outside, not sure if I can afford these yet though. Please keep suggestions coming, or alternatives, all welcome as I can't visualise.. thanks...See MoreBungalow extension floor plan help
Comments (7)I think you kinda have to move the kitchen. Firstly an extra bedroom can’t go in the side extension as it’s not wide enough - and if you put it in the rear extension then there is a concern that you will get to it though the lounge. I like the kitchen being through the lounge as it means you can have a kitchen roof lantern and the lounge will borrow some light too. As far as the logistics of moving the kitchen- firstly you were going to have the new space built so the plumbing and electrics can be included with the build. Secondly if you take an existing kitchen and put it in a bigger room it won’t fit. At the very least you may have to buy new worktops. A brand new kitchen might challenge the budget but there are bargains to be had on used kitchen specialist websites....See MoreStruggling planning my kitchen dining room
Comments (9)If you like the kitchen where it is then why go to so much expense to move it? Do you have any problems bending down to lift something in and out of an oven? If not then perhaps invest in a hob with an oven underneath. This takes care of where to put the oven. You have a big fridge freezer that disrupts the flow into the dining room. Have you considered having an under counter fridge with a separate freezer in that big utility. Those two big cupboards in the dining room may be valuable storage space but like the fridge freezer they disrupt flow. Could you replace them with shallow floor to ceiling cupboards (to the depth of the short wall) running the full length of that wall? You could even continue it into where the fridge freezer is now. You would retain the same amount of storage space, perhaps even gain some, but it would look and function better. If they matched the kitchen cupboards they would give a more cohesive and expansive feel to the rooms. I would leave the peninsula as it is. It will visually recede because you will have more room to move around. You could bring the utility door forward in line with the kitchen units and finish it to match the cupboard doors adding to that expansive and cohesive feel....See Morestruggling to visualise extension
