Matching the wooden flooring and doors with new furniture

Dear all,

Having just bought a house and in the process of sourcing furniture pieces, I am trying to sort out how to plan with what is there...in the living space (open plan, kitchen, diner and family area) on two different levels, the flooring is hardwood (pine? I think?).. with a yellowish tinge..

The doors however in the house are more orangey wood, this includes the bannisters.. At the moment I am not going to do much about that (but any advice would be appreciated esp as one door upstairs is painted white for some reason).

I am planning to paint the skirting and door frames all white (both up and downstairs). In the dining area, I will be painting the walls grey. I have found a beautiful couple of dining tables with wooden features (pic attached). however the wood is a walnut tone and again this is different to the floor and the doors..please can you advice whether all this wood tonal mismatch is ok?? If we go with this, anything I can do to make it look ok like rugs etc? Thank you so much!

we have a boards that will be very similar to the colour of the doors. It would be our Pyrenees 190mm or our Brushed 125mm. If you could email us more pictures of the door we would be able to see if we can match it closer.

Thank you Floor Monster team, however for the moment I am looking for ideas and advice as I will not be able to get new doors or new flooring etc just yet...but something to consider in the future and see what I can do with what I have now :)

In terms of the furniture you just want something in a colour to offset the floor ie darker wood, white/black lacquer or gloss or painted furniture. It's a good idea to tie the colours into the rooms. Have a look at farrow and balls grey colours and their colour suggestions. Maybe elephants breath in the hall and a light grey in the lounge with a darker shade in the dining room. You could also try a feature wall in a darker shade if wanted. (Do make sure the rooms have enough light to carry the grey though) Go for a darker grey sofa and maybe try either white, silver and black accessories and furniture. Or if you want it warmer add pale pinks or mauves but don't have more than 60% of the rooms in grey. Try a large drum or sphere pendant or chandelier for the ceiling and add a statement floor lamp in each room ie arc, angle poise or tripod/movie. If you add table lamps keep them simple as the room may not take 3 statement lights. Hang the light low over the dining table and you could also try the same with a chair or sofa. Unfortunately I can't find pics that tie this all in together. Do have a look at the website madeaboutthehouse and their 50 shades of grey which may give you ideas.

Good Morning Jess, Congratulations on the new home, how exciting. PVC windows can be painted, there are services available that specialise in this. With regards to the floor, if you would like to add more timber furniture for example, I advise rather than trying to match all timbers, always choose a different timber which ties in tonally with the fixed flooring which you intend to keep. This adds depth and also timber can fade and if they do not match this is not noticeable. I agree that skirting and architrave will benefit from paint that ties in with the walls as this creates the more clean crisp look. Also timber finishes can help you create that clean crisp look if cool colours such as white are juxtaposed against the timber.
