Stone wall needs a skirting board.

We have exposed a stone wall upstairs and the wooden floor boards obviously dont meet leaving a ragged gap, gathering dust, fluff and dog toys. How do we fit a skirting or bead to a stone wall?

The best way would be to use a grab adhesive. The thing is, you need to cramp the board in position once you have applied the skirting to the wall. This can be done by using 2 x 1 and staffing it off the opposite side of the room.

If the wall is not straight and it needs fixing at certain points I would use a masonry drill and then plug and screw. The wall will need to be drilled with an SDS drill. This drill has percussion action and with a nice sharp drill bit (it's the best way to drill stone).

I have been faced with this many times in the past. I generally ask the client to choose the profile they prefer then take a sample to the joiners shop where they can generally produce something near identical and I wouldn't have thought you would have a problem with yours

Thank you both! Would you advise to do just the one colour/medium throughout the house? My husband seemed to think white or oak would look good everywhere except where the tiled floors are. I don't think it would be a good idea to do 2 different skirting boards though, do you?

Skirting board heating works the same as any other heating. You work out the heating requirement for the room and then add heating accordingly. Conventional under floor heating takes a long time to heat up but Over floor heating is a newer option and works much like radiators i.e. heats up and cools down quickly.
